Recording from V+ Box to Mac, DVD or camcorder
Hi,
I have some material on my V+ box of a friend on TV. I want to get it onto my Mac so I can edit it and make a showreel for him.
How do I do this?
1). Is it possible to go straight from V+to a Mac. If so, how? Which cables and software do I need?
2). Or I could record from my V+ to a camcorder and then transfer from camcorder to Mac via FinalCut pro. I tried this but couldn't get the material from V+ to Camcorder. Does anyone know of a way to do this?
3) Finally, I could record to a DVD recorder, then rip the DVD with my Mac. But how would I do that? Which cables would I need? What make of DVD recorder? In Curry's they seemed to think a DVD recorder would not read the signal from my v+ box.
If anyone could help with this, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Recording from V+ Box to Mac, DVD or camcorder
Use the back up function within the V+ box and record to a DVD recorder (scart from the VCR out on the V+ into the line in on your DVD recorder). Burn a DVD with the DVD recorder (you'll need to finalise the disc as well) and then put it into your Mac. Use a piece of software called 'Mac the Ripper' which will copy the file to your Mac hard drive.
I'd download some free video editing software (Handbrake is a good bet) and convert the DVD file format into your chosen format.
These are basic instructions, but if you buy and download the necessary, I'll talk you through the process in more detail if needs be

Re: Recording from V+ Box to Mac, DVD or camcorder
Thanks, Bob.
I'm familiar with both Handbrake and Mac The Ripper. It's getting the stuff off the V+ box that's the problem. Once I get to another media I'm ok.
Is it as simple as scart out to DVD recorder?
Is there a cheap DVD recorder you'd recommend? Ie is Sony better than Pioneer or whatever? Or will all DVD recorders read the V+ signal?
One last question, if I may. What is the back-up function within the V+ box?
The DVD 'll read the signal ok?

Re: Recording from V+ Box to Mac, DVD or camcorder
Yeah any DVD recorder should read the V+ signal...even the cheap ones. If a certain member Spiderplant is doing his rounds, he might know of some that don't
It is as simple as one scart lead between V+ and DVD recorder.
Hit your V+/TVDrive button, select V+ Extras and there should be Copy to DVD/VCR. Select the programme you want to archive on your DVD recorder using the blue/arrow keys/select buttons. Press the yellow and then OK to start the copying process. Hit the record button on your DVD recorder remote (making sure you are recording from the right AV channel) and leave it until it has finished :-)

Re: Recording from V+ Box to Mac, DVD or camcorder
Any DVD recorder with a SCART input will work with the V+ box. For help with setting up the recorder these guides may be of use to you http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/34837803-post3.html. The archive function is on the 'V+ Extras' option in the V+ menu titled 'Copy to VCR/DVD' which allows you to copy recordings to a DVD or video whilst you watch TV.

I was beaten to it thanks to the V+ locking up whilst I was finding out what the options were called lol

You don't need a dvd recorder. You can capture stuff from the V+ with something like this:

I use the PC version and it's easy to use. It captures straight to the HD so you can do any editing before burning to DVD.

You'll need a scart adaptor. I got one for £2ish from ebay.

Re: Recording from V+ Box to Mac, DVD or camcorder
Hi Gents,
In the end I just plugged my camcorder into this scart adaptor into the lower scart plug on my V+ box and it picked it up instantly.
It was plug and go, basically.
(Unfortunately, the footage on the V+ box that I wanted to extract got deleted in the meantime. How I don't know).
But at least I know how to do it next time. Thanks for all your help.
