Virgin mail - Outlook Express

Hi,

Had my Virgin Broadband installed yesterday. Webmail works ok, so account seems ok. Have had two calls with the Indian call centre to try and get my Express working as a mail client, both have failed. In the end after another long call, the help centre person, said Virgin had a national problem with Outlook Express and the engineers were working on it, but its been an issue for weeks. Is this correct? If so, will something like Thunderbird work as a client?

I still have my Demon mail setup on Express, and this seems to receive mail from Demon, but won't send. Yet if I go back onto my ADSL wireless connection (it hasn't been turned off yet) I can send and receive mail to the Demon account ok, but in both cases, Virgin mail won't work. Sorry if this is a known issue.

Re: Virgin mail - Outlook Express

Have you logged into webmail, gone to settings, Forwarding/IMAP and selected to enable POP for all mail?
If you don't do this, your email client will never work.
The following link shows you what you need to do step by step

Re: Virgin mail - Outlook Express

Hi, Thanks for your replies so far, and moving this to the correct forum.

I have enabled the POP radio button and IMAP in web mail, although every time I go back to webmail settings, the POP button isn't showing as being filled in, so I click it again and apply, although the IMAP button is enabled.

I have gone through the settings as per the help page, now when I try to send/receive, I keep getting the user and password box showing, and even when I put in the correct password, the box just keeps coming back, then I get an error message. The password is correct, as I can log into webmail!

Are others using Express with no issues? If so, was the help desk telling me porkies, that there is an issue with Express?

Re: Virgin mail - Outlook Express

Is it actually possible to have both options set? I thought it had to be one or t'other.

Try setting pop on imap off.

Re: Virgin mail - Outlook Express

Ok, will try that. Spoke to the Indian help desk again, we setup the account again, it didn't work again, asked for my user name and password again. I've also tried switching the anti virus off and even switched off the firewall to see if that helps. No joy. The women from India, said she needed to check some stuff and would ring me back in 30 mins, that was 5 hours ago

My other email account, can still only receive mail, but can't send, don't know if that is because, its using port 25, as I thought I read somewhere virgin don't allow 25 in the setup, will need to do some more research.

Re: Virgin mail - Outlook Express

I am using my name@virginmedia.com. Going to try another mail client this morning, then if no joy, have another go at the help line

---------- Post added at 10:30 ---------- Previous post was at 09:19 ----------

Thanks for your help, its all sorted now. Got to speak to a UK tech, who sorted everything out including my other providers mail account in about 10 mins.

Turns out there was an issue with the password, once re-set it all started working. My demon account is working, using an ntlworld as an outgoing server as it doesn't require authentication, will only need this until the end of the week.

Re: Virgin mail - Outlook Express

I have the 20meg service, and never had any issues with speed, it was getting a mail client to connect to the POP3 server which was my issue.

The web mail was always fast. Now my settings have been sorted, the mail send/receive is as quick as any of my previous providers.
