Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

Considering we didn't want to pay £60m in the summer, why would we want to now? I highly doubt Fergie wants to blow that amount of money on a single player.

Perhaps you should try face paint...

Manchester United paid magicians more than £50,000 over a two-year period, and gave a similar sum to a firm which supplies clowns.

There've been similar stories ever since the yanks took over, the best one being "Old Trafford will have to be renamed to take on a sponsor".

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

I'm sure it has happened at a club which is now in the Championship. It won't happen to the most successful team in the premiership though.

Have you seen what went up overnight on Saturday?

I've heard they'll be running out to O Fortuna in the New Year...

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

The Emirates has been Arsenal's grounds name since it was built. No sponsor would ever take that away!.....

Anyway, United do have debt problems. They are like Liverpool in that even servicing the debt was becoming problem although I think it's eased a bit and is no where near Liverpool's debt. Liverpool's debt could kill the club.

Arsenal have manageable debt, pretty health position the club is in. Man City and Chelsea are playthings for billionaires. As long as their owners stay they will be fine.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

I take back what I said about United's debt:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm...chester_United

Quote:
The total amount will be £660 million, on which interest payments will be £62 million a year. The club stated, "The value of Manchester United has increased in the last year, which is why lenders want to invest in the club... 'This move represents good housekeeping and it ensures that Sir Alex Ferguson will be provided with sufficient funds to compete in the transfer market."
£62 million on interest a year? A year!? Even with the cool £80 mill they landed they couldn't put a massive dent in the £660 million they owe. Crazy money.

If Fly Emirates went bust, we're screwed.

Not really. Arsenal are quite secure and the stadium cash was provided up front in order to build the stadium. So all we would lose is shirt sponsorship which we could replace within a year anyway. They have a nice cushion to fall back on.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

The major problem in Premeier League football, is the inconsistency with referee's again.

We had the Henry problem with France, and today in the Spurs game was the poor decision with Ref. Mariner. There were deliberate handballs, especially with the Everton player, that l will call Hairbrush, as l cannot prounounce his name, firstly he cuaght the ball in both hands (which was a red card offence, as it was delibret), and then a couple of minutes later he brushed the ball away in the box, which should have been a penalty.

These are supposed to be top class referee's,but some of them deserve to be in Sunday league football, l just decided to pack the book up, as l am sick and tired of getting stick from players, and get paid £30 per game.

In the game of football, you cannot have one rule for one set of players, and another set for someone else.

50 grand for a clown?

I didn't realise they had bought any Celtic players recently.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

interesting listening to Herman Hreidssenn talking after the Birm game. Two points number one he said "he was waiting for contact" which shows that players do cheat and if they get contact fall over on purpose. He also said there was no contact and a pen shouldn't have been given but of course like Henry he never said that during the game.

This is why people who say managers should police that are wrong as that will never work. if that was the final game of the season and fall over to cheat and win a pen saved the club from relegation would the manager or chairman of the club even care
