It's official 'virgin Media' have won the war againts piracy.......but for how long?
well boys & girls,
Virgin media have finally won the war againts piracy on the usage of illegal set top boxes. By easter next year VM would have rolled out their new encyption system 'nagra 3' which in effect will make all those illegal stb out their useless. In Leeds nagra 3 has already been rolled out which was technically a test area for vermin to test out their latest encryption. Well the good news is that this will stop the pirates of obtaining channels without subscription but the bad news is that who will pick up the tab for 'vermin' new encryption system... yes the thats right the paying customers. Ok once the new encryption system lands what other options do the pirates have in receiving free tv.......the answer is 'cardshare' not with cable but with sky, i will say no more.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roll Out of Nagra3 by VM
The long awaited roll out of Nagra 3 by V88g8n Media to encrypt their cable services has begun, with Leeds being the first area of the UK to be upgraded to the new system.
According to unconfirmed reports, it will be rolled out across the South of England over January, the Midlands by February, and the North West of England by March. By Easter, all of V88g8n Media’s cable services should be running with Nagra 3 encryption.
This will make it virtually impossible for anyone to view premium cable channels broadcast by V88g8n Media except by legitimate paid subscribers, resulting in a serious blow to existing cable pirates.
The news has long been expected, after Nagra 3 was rolled out in the Republic of Ireland earlier this year, and hardware upgrades to allow for it to be rolled out in the UK have been sent out through 2009.
While cable pirates will no doubt be disappointed that their favourite premium cable channels will no longer be available for free, V88g8n are offering two months free upgrade on their TV services to new and existing customers.
If cable services are no longer wanted, then Sky has been providing special offers on Sky + and Sky HD for the Christmas season to bring in subscribers to premium channels.
Of course, there are also options to use Freeview, Freesat, or even use satellite equipment to explore the range of Free To Air (FTA) channels, which do not require subscription services.
In the meantime, when approached by Techwatch for comment, a V88g8n Media spokesperson replied “We do not comment on security issues.”

Cardshare?
Can you explain Funcard?
I was of the opinion that my sky card can only be used to receive channels on my sky box, ie specific to my box ?

I doubt Cardsharing is going to be allowed to be discussed here

Got it:
"Is Nagravision 3 hacked?
YES, but not fully. Some boxes are able to view some channels encrypted using Nagravision 3 through a technique called "card sharing" whereby the encryption status of an existing paid subscriber card is disseminated to other receivers through the use of a networked connection. Many hackers in the underground FTA testing community are working hard to further crack this security implementation as they have done in the recent past with Nagravision 2. Current underground projects are limited to channels which can be subscribed to. Channels that are not available for subscription such as Special Events and Pay-Per-View programming have so far remained unavailable.

The hackers will always find a way Sirius.
Buying dodgy boxes/cards is no different to buying a shirt from some guy who pops into your local one saturday afternoon asking for a few quid for a mcdonalds.

However they have not found a way yet and the box sellers know that.
The price of the so called free to air boxes have plummeted and the traders who have imported them are not to happy at losing there money .
When you look on the other forums you can quickly work out by there denial of anything N3 who the traders are
The rumors are by the way is that Skys card swap is being done to prevent or stop card sharing.

Reason why we can't discuss CS here is that it can be used to obtain tv channels illegally.

Ok, so it is a commercial decision?
Was it ever discovered which mobile phone companies bought confidential information from an ex-employee of another mobile phone provider?

You do know there is already a thread about the mobile DPA breach? So if you want to discuss it, maybe you should post on that
