Network Subnetting
Hi, How do i setup subnetting on a linux box? i am wanting to split up a network into different subnets, for sales, service and admin so they can see each other just not the different groups, i have read lots about how it works just no how-to guides. If anyone has any clue please help!

Can you blank the linux box and install another distro, if so, look at http://www.freesco.info/.

Well at the minute its running PFsense i was having a bit of a play, and to answer Jon T yes i can and i will have a look at that.

a quick thing about freesco, there isnt much about howto setup subnetting, thats what i need the help with i know the theory just cant find anything to help me set it up.

The point I was making is that subnetting is a networking thing (usually through a switch), rather than a server thing - you usually need multiple switches, or a switch that supports VLANs.

Eh? VLANS and Subnets are two different things, one is layer 2, the other layer 3. A subnet can run over multipe VLANS, and a VLAN can conain mutiple subnets. They don't have to correlate with each other at all.
Bennylaball, what your trying to achieve is straightforward(ish), your linux box becomes a router, each network card will belong to a different (sub)network, you then the rules about what protocols to pass between each interface.

Hi, im trying to acheive an isolated network without using expensive kit so i dont want clients to be able to talk to each other, i know this is possible without expensive kit as a local wireless ISP does this but wont tell me there secrets
