Upgrading to 50Mb - Stupid Prices!

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone can possibly explain to me where Virgin are getting their figures from?

Here is my billing info:

Rang up Virgin to upgrade to 50Mb (XXL) BB and they want an ADDITIONAL £44 PER MONTH. Can anyone explain where they are getting this price from?


My son rang up and got his for an extra £8 per month, here are his details.

Can anyone help? I've phoned 3 different times and keep getting told the same thing? It would be cheaper to keep the exisitng 20Mb and buy a seperate 50Mb.

Going off Virgins website 20Mb is £20 per month and 50Mb is £28 per month, so it should only be an extra £8 per month like my son?

It's madness ... but its because the current price you pay is a bundled price that has discounts attached. The £28 is for a new customer taking telephone and broadband and the associated discount, but you can't have the discount your current package has and the discount for the 50MB....
I don't think you could have 2 services coming in ... but maybe wrong... you'd get hit with installation anyway.

But 20Mb is £37 before discount and 50Mb is £45 before disocunt so it should only be £8 more per month?

I just phoned again and they quoted an extra £55 per month. Its going UP!

Ring up and ask if they are removing the discounts above and therefore giving you a different price than expected, and is the Mates Rates being taken into account.

I think you have been quoted the installation charge, which is £55.

The cost of phone and 50M is £28 + £11, i.e. £39 a month.

Yes it should be only an extra £8 a month. Definately sounds like the agent you spoke to was trying to take off the Mates Rates discount

This is probably because the offers system they use will be prompting them to do so.

Thanks guys, yes they were not including mates rates.

However still want £35 for install fee and 20 for activation. Thought they got rid of install fee?

No it still costs £55.

It may be on his bill as everyone should be charged £55 for installation on 50Mb.
