Well thats hardly surprising as its not the 10th yet. Since Iphone is in high demand too, 02 don't loose out by telling people to get 'on their bike' if they ask for cheapo deals.

Re: The iPhone thread

Just bought myself one of these. It's a small rechargable battery pack and is perfect when you want to use the iPhone (or iPod) on long journeys.

And, it's small enough that it fits in a pocket easily.

Oh, and a hacker who tried to extort money out of some Jailbroken iPhone owners has published details of how to close the backdoor he used...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/11/03/iphone_hack/

Basically, you need to change the device's root password..

I have a Powersupport Black Air Jacket for my 3GS, my wife's 3G has an, IIRC, InCase Slider.

I had a screen protector on my 3G (Powersupport Anti-glare I think), but haven't bothered with one on my 3GS.

The new baseband introduced by firmware 3.1 has been cracked by "geohot" (he of, most recently, 3.0's Jailbreak "Purplera1n" & 3.1's Jailbreak "Blackra1n"), meaning that it is now finally possible to perform a carrier unlock on a Jailbroken iPhone running 3.1.x, using the "Blacksn0w" feature of geohot's updated "Blackra1n" OS 3.1 Jailbreaking app.

Re: The iPhone thread

Regarding Blacksn0w... While geohot is legit and does work with the dev-team his releases do tend to be more sloppy than the dev-team (more crashes, worse battery life, etc). He prefers to get them out asap whereas the dev-team tend to want to release more robust solutions. I'd wait until the dev-team do a solution.

I've got something similar on mine, but its a bit too chunky and has to be removed before I can sit it on my docking station - is it really slim around the phone?

Gigabyte have released a beta BIOS update, nothing from ASUS or MSI though.

In fairness to Apple, I've had problems with USB with other, non-apple devices on my intel chipset. On thing that springs to mind is my old Freeview box (an unbranded one). When it was plugged in, my external USB HDD would suffer disk errors and eventually disconnect.

Re: The iPhone thread

There appears to be a "virus" affecting jail-broken iPhones.
BBC

Quote:
The self-propagating program changes the phone's wallpaper to a picture of 80s singer Rick Astley with the message "ikee is never going to give you up".
The worm, known as ikee, only affects "jail-broken" phones, where a user has removed Apple's protection mechanisms to allow the phone to run any software.

No, it only affects phones that have a SSH server installed with the default password. Big difference.

And instructions for changing the password (which you should do anyway regardless of whether there is a virus) are at http://cydia.saurik.com/password.html

As far as I know though, that is a process with happens during the jail break meaning users need to explicitly turn off (or change the password for) the SSH server after jail breaking their phones?

There is no process, but users are reminded. Trouble is people don't read things like manuals and readmes anymore.

Re: The iPhone thread

This is good news for me anyway I don't like having to use my iPhone via jailbreaking. Well worth the £15 to have it unlocked (I'm on a pay as you go handset).
