Re: Virgin media possibly getting serious on dodgy boxes?

I see no reason to disbelieve this guy. If it is not a VM card it gives possible proof of concept as to how to hack a VM card. I seriously would not be surprised if it is hit within a relatively short period of time myself.

no offence but do you have the knowledge of this technology to say outright what he posted is incorrect?

Re: Virgin media possibly getting serious on dodgy boxes?

If you google what he wrote you find out that it's not a virgin card and is from Spain or Portugal or one of those countries.

Still they will hack it eventually.

Also he changed 2008 to 2009 on what was posted on the other site

Well tell him a load of porkies and then he'll stop asking you.

I cannot copy and paste the whole dump from a vm card as that would be againts forum rules and stupid all I am saying is that it has been hacked. Yes bits I have got from another site but concept is exactly the same. 5/10 for research Hiroki.

The bottom 3 layers of the Kudelski chip is where all the precious codes are hidden not anymore.

At the end of the day the only reason why N1 was hacked was because NDS (SKY) hired a hacker to hack nagra 1 NDS was working on this for 6 weeks so they hired a hacker who managed to do it 1 week for a 6 figure sum. nagra are trying to hack into a nds card and vice versa thats how the business goes.
So where did he get the card from?

Everything is possible for the right money. maybe it might of been NDS again that paid someone to break the encryption.

So why didn't VM actually give one of the new VM cards to a hacker in the first place to see if they could be hacked..or did they already do that?

---------- Post added 21-10-2009 at 00:04 ---------- Previous post was 20-10-2009 at 23:58 ----------

And how much would one of the new VM cards have been worth to sell to the hacker? How much for possibly putting your job on the line?

you ask a vm engineer he would probably be happy with £50 he just handing over a piece of plastic. The new cards have been given for a while now with all new installs.

£50!! That's just stupid..this is an illegal industry worth millions and anyone getting their hands on a hacked card surely is prepared to pay more than that surely?

Re: Virgin media possibly getting serious on dodgy boxes?

thing is I would imagine once it is hacked and up and running the cards will be cheap . Its the boxs where they make the money. 2 VM engineers earlier this year installed 2 v boxes both modified and hacked cards for £300. Not to me btw a guy up the street I have always paid my cable bills

I have the knowledge to say the bit he copy pasted is a repost of a post that did the rounds 12 months ago about how n3 was extremely close to being hacked and it was literally days away, one that was pretty soon called out as a hoax.

If n3 is close to being hacked or not I don't know, but if it is, it will have nothing to do with that, and someone coming on here giving a textbook explanation of how smartcards are hacked isn't enough to worry me that it is any closer than it ever has been. Anyone that has the slightest knowledge of smartcard hacking can tell you what it involves doing to physically extract the data.
