V+ Recordings to DVD/HDD via HDMI?

I have recently bought a HD TV which was advertised as having 2 scart sockets but when I got home it had only 1. Queried with supplier who told me that I had the wrong model, however I wished to connect a V+ box and a Toshiba DVD recorder and he assured me that I could do this via HDMI. I have now connected it using HDMI but with a scart lead between V+ and DVD. (no more HDMI sockets) When I download recordings from V+ to DVD I get sound only, no picture. Scart is new as are HDMI leads. Tried every configuration but.....Help!

AFAIK you need

HDMI lead TV to V+
Scart Lead TV to V+
Another Scart Lead V+ to DVD

Have you tried that combo?

Re: V+ Recordings to DVD/HDD via HDMI?

I would check the SCART lead is in square. The plug can look like it is seated but be twisted slightly, this can cause sound to fail,.

How many HDMI ports on the TV? Does the DVD have HDMI?

Assuming TV has two HDMI and DVD has HDMI out then I would suggest.

V+ HDMI to TV
DVD HDMI to TV
SCART (VCR) to DVD SCART In.

Depending on the DVD recorder you could also have (as I do) SCART breakout lead on V+ with a composite video and stereo audio in on the DVD. The cable is smaller, more flexible and easier to route than a SCART lead. Mechanically it gives more positive connection to.

Hope this helps,

Re HDMI V+ to DVD/HDD

Soluition found! Thanks for all your replies, but the DVD/HDD was faulty! Congratulations to Toshiba, they swapped the unit out with no fuss, delivered to my door within 4 days, collected old unit. Brilliant customer services....Well Done Toshiba!

Threads Merged: Probably best to keep the outcome with the original thread, helps people keep track of what's going on
