So then I decided to ring the Leicester store and they told me LE3 6FL is not on their list for there 1st phase upgrade! and it is more than likely to be done in the 2nd phase commencing January 2010 - April 2010

I also was wondering what needs to be done to upgrade an analogue area to digital...
I was told in the shop that we should be done by the end of the year.

I saw the cabs being worked on on Woodville Road and Glenfield Road a couple of weeks ago. It was definetly contractors and not VM staff doing install etc. Ive had it from several sources now that we will get service very soon.

In my experience if VM telesales staff, they can only give the info provided to them (ie the postcode checker) so they dont really know.

As soon as I hear something I'll post here.

Re: VM to begin expanding its cable network

Next generation internet and digital TV services come to Cornwall for the first time.

Vtesse Networks and Virgin Media have today announced plans for an ultra-fast broadband trial in Cornwall. The trials will provide connectivity of up to 50Mbps and be used to deliver Virgin Media’s range of “next generation” broadband and digital TV services to two rural communities well beyond the reach of the company’s existing fibre optic cable network. The trials will begin during winter 2009.

“Subject to the satisfactory completion of these trials and to a supportive regulatory policy, our analysis indicates that it could be feasible to roll-out similar capability to as many as 2 million further homes and small businesses in current ultra-fast ‘not-spots’ across the country.”

Re: VM to begin expanding its cable network

This would be Virgin's play for the Digital Britain 50p tax money.

Re: VM to begin expanding its cable network

That is a interesting development, could we see Virgin remain responsible for the core cable network, channel carriage deals and VOD content but use other companies infrastructure to deliver content outside that area. There seem to be a number of areas that have a optic fibre network being running by small companies that have invested in a small area.

Re: VM to begin expanding its cable network

It would make sense, VM have lots of Fibre all over the UK, not just in their CATV areas.

So yes VM could send their content across their backbone to some of these other areas and let a 3rd party handle the access network.
