If Orange has better prices then I might leave O2 as my contract is up in November.

Yep, some. Not sure how much though. And for it to cache any data, it'd still need a data connection initially.

Re: The iPhone thread

Hi,
had my 3gs about a week now an just last night noticed that the bottom section of the screen is ever so slightly darker than the top. It's most noticable in landscape mode on White webpages. can anyone me know if this is a common thing or if I need a relacement unit?

Thanks guys

I can't say it's something I've noticed... do you have an Apple Store near you that you can take it into for a look?

Re: The iPhone thread

It's only the slightest of 'greyness' On one side and after doing some googling it seems a lot of iPhones have the same thing. My daughters iPod 2gen has a similar thing.
No apple stores near Harrogate as far as I know and I can't say I'm too keen on 02 swapping it out correctly as it took forever to get this one outta them!

Re: The iPhone thread

Spoke to 02 today and they claimed there was none in stock. I called back 5 mins later and asked for a refund and 'hey presto' they had one in stock, its coming tomorrow. Oh and I insisted that it wasnt a refurb!

Thing is theres a strong chance it will have a knacked screen as apparently the white 3Gs's are rife with screen problems. One guy on the apple forum had to return his 5 times before he got a decent screen.

It looks as though its dependent on the factory and batch number. The earlier batches are ***** and full of cracked cases, the screen fault then appeared so HOPEFULLY this new batch will be free of both issues.....

.... oh and then theres the well known touch screen fault... haha

I can't see Orange branding it at all - O2 haven't.

One good thing about Apple's control freakery I suppose...

I took this up with customer services a few days back and was told there is a sensor on the phone which detects when you have the iPhone to your ear and switches the screen off (to save power). He blaimed my case which is like a plastic mould type thingymebob - was he blagging me or what?!

Re: The iPhone thread

Yes I reckon he was blagging you to take you off the "screen fault" scent - but he was right it does turn the screen off when its near your ear. The Proximity sensor is to the left of the ear-piece, my case has a cut out of it so it still works. if you put the phone vertical and put your hand over the earpiece then it should turn the screen off.

Re: The iPhone thread

A freind has just bought a 3gs from o2 and is in the process of moving to o2 after being told by an orange call centre agent that the iphone won't come to orange as it does not work on their network.

Muppets. Lost a customer by not even knowing that orange and t-mobile (who both use similar gsm tech) have the iphone in other countries.

Re: The iPhone thread

Beyond being locked to a particular network (and that can be reversed), there is nothing that stops any iPhone being used on any GSM Network. OK, so for 3G and HSDPA access, you need the 3G or 3GS. No doubt helped by the fact that all the mobile phone networks in this country use standard protocols.

There are a couple of different iphone models with specific radio set-ups. (and not just 3g/3gs). The difference come with the way some networks use 3g.

Apple has also been recruiting EVDO, CDMA and Wimax engineers.

Vodafone finally catch up http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...in-the-UK.html

In 12 months if they can improve the specs then I could be interested.
