Still trying to spec out a new PC

When one is looking to spend over £1000 one needs to take time.

The current cheapest quote is from PC Specialist at a shade over £1200.

Core i7-920 DO step CPU
6GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R mother board
700W Quite Quad Rail PSU
CoolerMaster HAF 922 Case

2x1TB SATA 3 Gb/s hard disks
22x Dual layer DVD Writer
Internal Card Read

896MB nVidia GTX260
22" LGW2261V monitor
Logitech 1500 keyboard and mouse

Vista Home Premium 64bit and Win 7 upgd

1 Year Collect and Return

Computer Planet are £60 more changing

Asus P6T SE mother board
Asus LightScribe DVD (SATA)
ATX Case
Asus 22" (VK222s) monitor (webcam)

SCAN and Overclockers are much more expensive and Zing is not local.

Our local shop quoted £1250 but only 1 HD, no DVD, no card reader. But one of their techies really wants to build a machine like that.

Anyone had experience of either these or heard anything to avoid. I am willing to go with more expense if it's really worth it. All offer lifetime support, manuals, etc.

Any gotchas, questions needed etc most welcome.

Re: Still trying to spec out a new PC

I think the first ones a bargain tbh . If you were building it yourself and buying from OCUK it would cost you £1150 ish

Re: Still trying to spec out a new PC

PC Specialist, SCAN and Overclockers have all got very negative reviews often linked to support and delivery. This is a real issue with remote buying but I guess that like here few people sign up to report good service so these things need a touch of sodium chloride in the mix.

One review site has recommended Easy-PC who sell via ebay and the feedback there is extremely good. Anyone here heard of or used them. The review indicated very knowledgeable engineers and responsive support.

I am also still trying to get recommendations for a sound card that will work in Linux and have Midi I/O ports like my old Audigy card (via daughter back plate joystick port). The XFi card look good buy bad Linux support.

Re: Still trying to spec out a new PC

tweet, as you probably know yourself its far easier to get bad publicity then possitive and yes OC'UK is a bit of a pain lately.

that pc from PC Spec is probably still the best specced and priced around so its work going for that if you dont want to build your own and even then its going to be tight to beat that price.

Not 100% But I think its Corsair 8gb DDR3 Believe its the XM series Like the one above.. Which is A striking Comparison These Computers are Nearly Identical In power Whereas That Leads in terms Of Proccessor And HDD.. I take over In graphics and Ram

While Your Here lol you had any Experience using Labelflash and Where i could buy the Disks from?

Did i mention The Internal Card Reader too xD

Re: Still trying to spec out a new PC

I wouldnt bother they will be to expensive. Buy a Canon or Epson printer with cd tray if you intend to burn and print a fair few and you will save money in the long run

I got two with the machine and Was eager to see the results.. Was fairly Dissapointed in seeing it basically just looks like a crappy Hologram on a Lookalike Blu Ray disk
