Buddhas of Bamyan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhas_of_Bamyan

Does anyone know what is happening about the Buddhas of Bamyan in Afghanistan?

Apparently they were destroyed by the Taliban sometime in (2001?) but after the US overthrow of the Taliban, apparently they were being repaired as much as possible with help from Switzaland, Japan and other countries.

Thing is i cant find any information about the latest reconstruction or if they have completed the reconstruction.

Im muslim, and i don't worship these statues and buddah but it makes me sad to see these types of things being destroyed in my country, i did visit them when i was younger, and i have to tell you they are one of the most beautiful man made things i had ever seen.

does anyone know whats going on?

Re: Buddhas of Bamyan

I'm not sure what is currently happening Zee, but I do remember the crime against ancient art the ignorant taliban committed when they dynamited these statues.
Its good to see various peoples coming together so as to save one of the worlds treasures though.
