re: The iPhone thread
Really? Wow, wasn't aware of that - thanks for clearing that up

It crashed.....my iPhone is now apparently in 'restore' mode and I can't do anything until I've restored it through iTunes.
Apparantly it's currently erasing all media from the phone.....oh joy

re: The iPhone thread
I haven't got a clue how much of the data (contacts, photo's, applications, application settings) are included in the backup/restore
Anybody happen to know?

All the contacts, photos and apps anyway. Not sure about the settings but when I got my replacement it seemed exactly as it was once the new one had been restored from the backup.

re: The iPhone thread
When I restored my 3GS with the backup of my 3G, it seemed pretty much identical. Had to give it my email password, IIRC, but everything else was there: media, apps, email account, contacts, etc.

re: The iPhone thread
It'll be reet Rob. The backup just makes a copy of the phones HDD , much like Norton Ghost for the PC. The restore from backup wipes the HDD to remove the cockup and then reinstalls a good version.
Let us know how i goes

re: The iPhone thread
I've just had same problem as Rob M
The software update to fix the sms security problem started well, then it stopped, and ever since it's been saying i need to restore as its stuck in recovery mode.
I say okay fine restore, an it does somthing with the phone for a few mins, an then comes up with the error 1604. and i can't restore it.
Have just been on a mad internet rush looking up 1604 an fixes, but its not working!
Any help??
(my 1st apple product, an yet this feels like something a microsoft product would do )

re: The iPhone thread
Have you tried telling iTunes to reset the iPhone and then doing the restore?
Also, have you tried rebooting the computer before trying to do the restore?

It does.
Connect it to your computer now and tell it to do the restore, that should restore the backup that's in your iTunes.
Hopefully

re: The iPhone thread
I'm looking to sell my iPhone 3G, 1 year old, to a family member. I don't want to rip anyone off, can anyone that isn't biased! i.e. me!...let me have any guide price suggestions.
iPhone 3G
1 year old
16GB
Black
No nasty damage just normal wear and tear
Ideas?
(p.s. I managed to get out of my O2 contract due to a balls up by them!...so I'm on contract with no contract end date, well...it shows the last one I had, which was in 2007! )

re: The iPhone thread
I would say anything from about 250-320 is a good price if it's working and with the box etc, I guess an average price of roughly 280 via eBay, but obviously you would have the hassle with fees and paypal, so 250 is a good cash deal. And as it's a family member, maybe a bit of a discount - if your feeling generous.
