Andrew - The ESPN site is wrong, don't take that as fact. It seems that it hasn't been updated with all the correct information since the VM announcement. The second VM press release today clearly states that ESPN HD will show EPL and SPL games.
|
Since the VM announcement, so prior to the VM official press release the site already had that information? I doubt it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
From the VM press release:
Quote:
|
Lynne Frank, managing director for ESPN in Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “We are delighted to add Virgin Media as a new distribution partner and to offer millions more sports fans ESPN’s compelling mix of Barclays Premier League and Clydesdale Bank Premier League football, as well as the best of international football and top quality sports. The plan to make the channels available to Virgin Media’s XL customers will help ESPN better serve sports fans in the UK. It’s an exciting season ahead and we look forward to bringing our new channels, ESPN and ESPN HD as well as ESPN Classic, to as many sports fans as possible.”
|
No ambiguity there that I can see but I share the concern regarding the showing of british football in HD

As previously stated could understand the "updating" issue if the reference to V+HD was not made in non EPL/SPL.
Looking like a dog's breakfast

This is in the VM press release
The ESPN HD channel will offer live Barclays Premier League and Clydesdale Bank Premier League football
How is that not clear?

Except in that statement , which you highlighted, does not say anywhere ESPN HD. The second PR release is more clear but made poor by ESPN unclearness

If you look at the ESPN website it clearly reference V+HD in HD on all items except EPL/SPL so has been updated post contract agreement with EPL/SPL specifically omitted?

Well, it appears to have generated a lot of debate, no doubt we'll get confirmation tomorrow.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Until we can get an official answer out of either ESPN or Virgin this is just going to go around and around.
