More on SMTP

Thanks for your help last week (especially newbie). Just a small thing, but now that I have POP3 enabled on Windows Mail (my domain) with smtp.virginmedia.com finally up and running after last week's problem, is there any way sent messages can exclude my VM web address? I have defaulted my VM web account to (eg) xian@xian.etc. Received messages now indicate "from (eg) xian@virginmedia.com on behalf of (eg) xian@xian.etc." This is ok but a bit confusing for recipients. The reason the VM address appears at all is that it has to be included in the outgoing server settings to make the whole thing work. Or so it seems...
And by the way, I DO use webmail but not everyone wants to leave their private correspondence in a filing cabinet down at the local Sorting Office!!
