As far as I know Virgin has no plans to carry Create and Craft any time soon. But it may appear when Virgin deal with Create and Craft owners Ideal World is up.

I hear that ESPN and Sky are biding for the right to broadcast The Shield and some FA Cup/England games.

Also I hear this year Charity Shield maybe sold to an broadcast as an oneoff to give the FA more time to sign an deal with an broadcast to show the thing that Setanta has the rights to.

These things aren't nowhere near as simple as getting a few people in a board room and hashing out a deal in afternoon like some people think.
quite frankly as someone who has been involved in deals much larger than this

18 months is not a reflection of the complexity but more a reflection of the board and management of the two companies concerned!

Completely agree. Deals can be done in hours, days, weeks, months, year. Its all down to how much they want it followed by dotting i's crossing ts

Size has nothing to do with it, you could have a very small £100 deal that coudl take years to settle or you could have £100billion deal that could months there no comparison when ti comes to size.

A business comes down to two sides agree terms which they feel best meet there business and will not make them go banklrupt (same some banks in the uk could not have done that insteads of being greedy)

Indeed, complexity has nothing to do with size, and I'd like to see an example of a more complex deal than a carriage deal.

I've been involved in tenders for defense contracts, and they were essentially quite simple, despite being for huge amounts. All that it came down to was how you were going to deliver what was required, how long it'd take you to do so, and how much it was going to cost. Throw in some fines for breaching the agreed limits on those and you've got yourself a contract.

There's far more than just two parties involved in a carriage deals, there is the broadcaster (who want to pay as little as possible), the channel (who want to get as much as possible), the rights holders (who want more money if their programs are seen by more people and the channel are gaining more money for them), advertisers (who want their ad space as cheap as possible whilst the channel wants them to pay more for more viewers), and even other broadcasters (who could have terms in their contract requiring renegotiation and price matching if the channels appear on other platforms). It is in all likelyness a case of going back and forwards between all of them to come to an arrangement, and when everyone is only interested in protecting their bottom line then getting to an agreement that is right for everyone can take a LONG time.

Try build new replacement hospitals and major reprovision of mental health services in the community with all the various stakeholders to consider

Staff
Patients
Government
General Public
NIMBY's

This had two parties to resolve a single issue of a contract

It is simple

yes we can do it at a price and terms that is acceptable to both sides

no we can't do it at a price that is acceptable to both sides

If the former was the case 12/18 months ago but now is possible due to change in circumstances then its not really an 18 month negotiation but a negotation which closed, parked for some time and re-opened by one of the parties.

Yeah and I know for a fact that the new hospital builds (at least the new Super Hospital in Birmingham) was under negotiation for a LOT longer than 18months. From initial plan to council approval was over 6 years. So what's your point? That more complex deals that even longer? I think that's a given?

Carriage deal ARE NOT just down to two parties, the deals are contingent on deals with many other parties as well, especially when it comes to VOD.

Good Food HD is one to look forward to.

Living HD might not be the first(ie end of month). The article refers to Living HD being the first from VM owned channels.

Well out of those - I watch about 1 hour week (and that include UK Food). History & Eurosport for me would have been better (and why not C4 & ITV - although ITV may still be exclusive to Freesat), but at least it is a step in th right direction.
