Upscaled 4HD pictures are excellent, as 4HD is using higher bitrates then 4.

Although not on a par with proper HD, it's still much better than SD

Here's the announcement: If you want HD, get Sky HD. It really is that simple.

Please note, this only applies to those who can have a dish so no smart ar5e comments please.

It's not that simple, because:

1. You may also like video on demand and Sky Anytime is no substitute.

2. More HD is coming to Virgin Media.

However, we are all fed up with the wait for more HD. Hopefully we will all look back on these threads in a couple of years time when we have more HD than Sky and laugh.

1 - If you want on demand HD, get an Apple TV. There's a huge archive of HD movies there with a growing library of HD TV shows as well. (which is already leagues ahead of VM's on demand HD service) Plus you get the added bonus of being able to watch all the content on your computer and iPod/iPhone, as well as your HDTV. I'd like to see Sky and Virgin do that!

2 - Really? I see no evidence of that. I'd be very surprised if they add even a single new HD channel within the next 5 years. If Virgin had even the slightest interest in HD, they'd of added channel 4 HD when it launched.

You know that statement is complete and utter rubbish. There will be more HD channels this year, I'd even put money on it.

Sure there will, just like more HD channels were coming last year, and the year before.

I hope you will be eating humble pie when the announcement and the channels appear!

Everyone needs to calm down, VM have said there are HD channels coming, but of course its quite possible that the delay is beyond their control.

As I hope you will be when this year ends with nothing but a promise of 'HD channels coming soon in Q4 2010!'.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

It seems to me like it's a case of Virgin not wanting to release just one HD channel here and there, but instead releasing a few at a time. And if that's the way they want to do it, then it's understandable that they're not on the service yet.

Stephen - Seeing as you work for them, any hints you can drop regarding a potential time frame?

No as I either don't really know too much or could possibly get shot if I did say anything.

My previous few posts must give a wee hint though

July 09 but that barring any problems between now and then

Fair enough, completely understandable. Not worth the risk.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

I'm just curious but would all you people who are eager for HD be happy if Virgin added something weak like 4hd or itvhd or would you find it an insult after all this time waiting?

Also why is it taking so long for BBC Alba to appear on Virgin? Just my mates had it on his dodgy box for months and I was just wondering what the wait is for.

I'll be happy to have ITV HD and 4 HD, obviously I'd hope for more too, but they'd be a good start. ITV broadcasts FA Cup and Champions League in HD, plus the occasional good film too. It's not really accurate to say they're weak channels, when I struggle to think of any stronger channels they could add (other than Sky 1 HD, which will never happen). I'd love a Setanta HD, but given their current money problems, it would appear that's unlikely right now.

I'd like Eurosport HD and the Nat Geo HD channels too. But I wouldn't turn my nose up at ITV and 4, I'd just be disappointed.
