Virgin Media Broadband School

UK ISP Virgin Media Finds Brits Baffled by Broadband Jargon

Quote:
The latest study of over 3,000 Internet users conducted by Virgin Media has revealed that 18% of online surfers don't know what broadband actually is, 53% thought broadband relied on having a phone line (satellite, Wi-Fi and Mobile Broadband solutions don't) and almost half are puzzled by the term meg (usually short for 'Megabit(s) per second' or 'Mb' - a measurement of broadband speed, though 8% thought it meant Megapixels).

To combat this problem Sir Richard Branson has announced plans to trial Virgin Media 'Broadband Schools', which will launch in cities that display the least amount of broadband knowledge and no doubt help VM increase its customer base too.

I wonder if they'll be teaching people what Subscriber Traffic Management and all fibre optic broadband are myself.

They will I'm sure have sales bots wandering around there as well. If I get the chance I'll go for the comedy factor.

I think kids are a lot more clueful than you think. Tell the kid who plays games online that it's fine someone in another country has better pings to London than him.

Re: Virgin Media Broadband School

It does sound like too good a marketing opportunity for VM to miss but anyone who gets to try and show my husband how to switch a computer on will certainly either earn their money and have the patience of a saint or lose the will to live after the first 10 minutes.

You should be quite capable of teaching him yourself.

Just ensure that the is nothing sharp to hand or even club shaped as we do not want the headline.

Wife kills husband after multiple attempts to get him to switch computer on.

Re: Virgin Media Broadband School

I hope they include the remote on the tv in school as well.

I've given up trying to teach hubby how to record something and now do it for him.

And .... how simple is recording !!!!!

I'll let him go to the school as long as its residential .....

3 years should just about be long enough

Re: Virgin Media Broadband School

Sounds to me like Virgin are just finding out if we are as stupid as they've always thought of us to be. I'm not surprised STM isn't in there somewhere.
