more issues !

ok the previous problem i had with an exchange in leeds causing me some issues with reaching sites fixed itself. which is grand.

last night. around 8pm i noticed my interwebs were very very unresponsive. some pages timing out. some pages just taking an age to display. so following someones advice on these boards to a previous problem.

i downloaded a game demo from the VM demo's list. a single file download came down at 300kb not good for a 20mb connection. if i started a second download. this also would average out to 300kb . 2 hours to download a 1 gig file :/

i decided that i would allow it some time and so here i am.

its 3.30AM !! i just ran a speed test

well i ran a few from diffrent sites but all report the same. not only do they show my internet is crippled but they take around 4 minutes to complete whereas they are usually over in a few seconds. i watch the up and downstream lights on my modem and its as if they only activate intermittently. like i download a small chunk one second. then theres a 3 second pause. then it downloads another chunk....... etc
kinda hard to explain sorry.

last thing i wanted to check out was the modem configuration page i was also linked to previously. 192.168.100.1 .

i can not open this page to see anything. i just get a message saying gateway timed out. every time ( iv tried it like 20 times)

so yea. it's late . im tired but alert. i shall be going back to bed shortly but would like to know if people have any suggestions, i will be rining vm if this continues but my last call was unpleasant . i was left in a queue for 35 minutes only to be hung up on twice !!. so im really hoping someone here can suggest something .

thanks.

Re: moar issues !

If you tried to access the modem page and got a Gateway timed out error, it sounds as though you are using a proxy. Have you set the VM webcache up in internet explorer (webcache.blueyonder.co.uk 8080)?

If you have then remove the settings and try again. You should then be able to access the modem config page atleast to get a slightly better idea of whats going on.

yea i had done this/ i removed it last night as i thought it could interfere but it did not solve the problem.

strangley today although i dont have my full 20mb ( getting around 15) the problem seems to have fixed itself. i logged onto the modem config page but i noticed some odd messages in the modems logs. perhaps there was just an issue with the line or vm were changing somthing ?

Re: more issues !

Maybe they were doing some work in your area, as they do sometimes do this in the middle of the night when there are less people online so as to cause less disruption.

http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do
Keep your eye on it to see how it goes and also that page incase anything pops up.

What error messages are you getting in the modem logs?

Those levels are fine for a NTL connection any issue must be elsewhere.
