Sony EVI D-30 webcam problem, please help!

I'm posting here because I'm frustrated and don't know what to do anymore.

Well I recently got on Ebay the much praised Sony EVI camera, but I have a lot of problems setting it up! Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I don't know much about computers

That's what it looks like from behind, where you connect the cables:

It arrived to me with some cables and devices:
- a power supply cable, which I connected from one side to the cam (yellow DC IN 13.5V) and from the other side to electricity;
- a cable that divides from both sides into 4 other multicoloured cables, from one side I connected the black of the 4 into 'S VIDEO' (it doesn't fit nowhere else), yellow to yellow and I let white and red hang as I have separate audio. From the other side the 4 cables where already connected to
- a device called 'EasyCAP', which on one side has also 4 cables like that (connected to the previous ones) and from the othera USB end, which I connected to my computers USB port.

The computer didn't recognize the device. After some research I identified the device as 'EzCAP108' and downloaded from its manufacturers website drivers for it. Now the PC recognizes it as 'USB 2861 DEVICE' and it appears in 'sound, video and games controllers' because it's a 'video grabber'.

The program I want to use Sony EVI with asks me to which serial port it is connected, and it only wants COM1 for an answer. But as I said, the camera is connected to a USB port using EasyCAP.

I was thinking about buying a COM to USB adaptor, so I could connect it to EasyCAP and then plug it into my COM1. Would this work?

So I'm basically trying to let the program know that I DO have a Sony EVI. But the only place it looks for it is COM1!

Any help will be really appreciated, I'm getting so frustrated with this, trying to find a solution since like 3 days

What is your operating system? I have a video capture USB device and it refuses to work in Vista point blank because of no working driver, but works just fine on XP.

Thank you for your answer!

I'm on XP as well, so unfortunately it's not the problem.

A quick Google revealed this link http://www.gizmograbber.com/index.asp. Someone said they got the driver from there in the end. Perhaps thats worth a look?

Perhaps this topic http://forum.videohelp.com/topic331168.html is also worth a look, its got a lot of information.

Re: Sony EVI D-30 webcam problem, please help!

You might find that the com port isn;t used for the ezcap, but instead it's a control line for the camera controls...that way the editing/capture program can control play/stop/..etc.. If you plug the ezcap device into a com port (via a usb/serial) it simply will not capture as it won't have the bandwidth... Is there perhaps another cable you;re missing for that plugs from the com port to the camera??

Thank you AbbysUnderground, already got the drivers. The topic really is informative, but it seems a lot of people have problems with the device...

I'm sure I'm not missing anything, however most people use VISCA cables and an Oyster card to make Sony EVI's work with their PC's. Guess I'll have to buy this
