Adobe Flashplayer update - active x ??

Hi guys

Just turned on my PC and was immediately informed that an Adobe flashplayer update was apparently required. I updated accordingly and restarted then logged in to a couple of websites only to find that I was unable to play any video files and was told I needed to update to flashplayer 9 I clicked on the update link and was told something called activex (or similar) would be downloaded and within a few seconds everything was working as normal. My questions are what is activex? why didn't it get downloaded/activated with the first update? and is there any need for concern e.g. security issues.

Remember who you're reply to so please keep your answers nice and simple for me!!

Cheers Zing.

So if Activex poses a potential risk, is there anything I can do to minimise that risk? e.g. enable it for sites I trust and disable it for general surfing?

Re: Adobe Flashplayer update - active x ??

I'm still not sure how a problem might show itself. Will my AV alert me to any activex problems in the same way as it picks up a virus attack?

Cheers.

I hate flash / active x. Crashes both laptop and pooter a lot, keep meaning to revert back to the previous version!

Oh well that makes me feel better.... I was wondering if Activex 'attacks' could bypass AV software. Been using Avast for years without problems so I think I'll rest easy now. Cheers Zing
