Point of information - Mahatma is a Sanskrit word meaning "great soul", especially in the Hindu and Buddhist religions; nothing to do with Pakistan whatsoever (different language, religion, etc).
So not only not funny, not even remotely accurate....

As you say foreverwar Indian origins, also I seem to remember a similar "joke" doing the rounds many years ago linked to the great Gandhi.
These types of "jokes" are best left to people like Garry Bushall and Jim Davidson, its what you'd expect from them.
