Self instalation
Hi everybody new to this forum so please bear with me.
I currently have large tv with a normal samsung cable box.
I have seen some V+ boxes forsale privately, my questions are as follows:
1: Would it work if I just connected it up to the exsisting cable that comes into the house? If not what would you recommend I do?
2:Will it let me record 2 and watch 1 channel without paying any extra on my current Large TV subscription?
3:I am waiting for the HD channels to come out soon, If the home instalation works can i just phone up Virgin and pay the extra required to get the required channels?
Im sorry if this is a repeated thread or I have posted in the wrong Thread.
Thanks for your help
Edd

Short answer is No !!
You'll have to ring Virgin and get a box from them

Re: Self instalation
1. No. I would recommend calling VM and subscribing to the service.
2. No. V+ is £5 per month on TV:L
3. BBC HD is included with V+ subscription. Also some VOD content is available in HD. Can't tell you whether other standalone HD channels will be released at this point.
Bare in mind if you call VM, upgrade to TV:XL and retain your current box as an additional outlet for £5.00 they will do the V+ install for you for £49.00 instead of the current £99.00/£150.00 install costs.

Re: Self instalation
You cannot use any Cable Set Top Box, whether it is a V or V+ model, that has not be directly supplied to you by Virgin Media as part of a subscription.
Set Top Boxes for sale on sites such as ebay, or other sources are hookey, as they are hired to subscribers and thus cannot be legally sold. Use of these is obtaining services without payment, i.e. illegal.
This site will not allow the discussion of services obtained without a subscription.

Re: Self instalation
I have NOT said anything about NOT paying for my services, I was more intrested in the record and watch element of the box as I don't have a hardrive recorder or Video.

eddtheduck don't worry you weren't being accused The mods have a responsibility to politely remind everyone of the rules (especially new users).
Follow the advice given above and you cant go wrong

Re: Self instalation
If you want a V+ box, which is the only way of getting integrated PVR capabilities with a Cable Set Top Box, then you have to subscribe to the Virgin Media V+ service. If you do that the V+ will be supplied to you.
You can get your own hard disc recorder / DVD type player and connect that to your existing STB, but that will only be able to record the single channel the standard V box outputs.

They do not work without a subscription, so to buy would be just so you could use it as a doorstop.
