think you mis-understand my username, virgin have ruined ntl. Ntl used to have no broadbands "fair" usage policies, traffic shaping etc, virgin ruined this when they took over and the customer service has gone downhill too.

No, you are misunderstanding Stephen. Virgin have not taken over NTL. NTL went to Virgin and bought a licence to use their brand name. Then they went round changing all the NTL branding for Virgin branding. But underneath the shiny new red paint, it is still NTL/Telewest.

And LOL at "Customer service has gone downhill" ... NTL's customer service has been legendary (and not in a good way) for years. In fact it's the reason why this forum was set up.

In that case why isn't it 'still Cable & Wireless' or 'still Cable London' 'still Videotron' etc

How long does it have to be a different prices, products, policies, computer systems, managment etc BEFORE it loses the 'it's still just X company'?

At this stage I would say the only thing that IS still the same as the physical wires - everything else is different

You're misunderstanding the point somewhat. There is a common misconception that Virgin somehow bought up NTL/Telewest then came in and made changes. That is not true. The Virgin branding is in use because NTL/Telewest bought a licence to use it.

However, on the point about what the nature of a company is ... I used to work for a large hotel company that had, over the years, bought up a number of others. Whenever I visited one of the hotels, I found staff who would identify themselves with whichever brand was over the door when they started working there. In some cases this could have been 10 or 15 years ago. Sometimes the hotel brand had changed twice in the intervening years.

Business culture does change over time. It probably wouldn't be fair to talk about Videotron or Cable London. But the NTL and Telewest brands were removed from the letterheads barely 2 years ago and many, many people, especially in management and senior management, were part of one or the other of those companies.

I may be wrong but I though ntl/tw bought Virgin Mobile and inherited the name.

Also, nothing against anyone and their tireless quest to see HD TV, but there are discussion threads for this. This one is supposed to be 'Coming soon to Virgin' not 'I have a big shiny TV and can't use it' :-)

They bought virign mobile and at that point ask virgin to use the virign brand for the rest rof there business as ntl had a bad name with it so they thought new name will get rid of the badish assiocate with ntl

Yes, but in December, Neil Burkett said that we would get the HD channels within the next three months. This is what people are concerned about - we keep getting promises and they come to nothing.

Let's just hope this time is just a small delay and not another false dawn.

LOL i think that's the crux of it... why promise it "soon" if you know damn well it ain't gonna be!

Just like digital text or ex NTL new multiscreen... HD will be here soon people... ooops... there's a pig flying over the oak tree that stops me from getting Sky

(Even if it turns up tomorrow, they will still be a year too late from "soon")

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

I think people forget the process of getting channels on to virign, it aint as simple as we want this channel ok lets broadcast it tomorrow, the broadcaster has to agree a fee to allow it to be broadcast and i suspect when they say soon they are trying hard to get them but jsut cant agree a term. At least they are acklowedge linear channels are more important not instead of saying \vod is all we need

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

Is BBC ALBA about to launch on Virgin TV?

In the past week - Friday, Saturday and Wednesday - some shows that BBC Alba broadcast has appear ON Catch-up on Demand via BBC Player and ''All Days''.

And I have been told this week that it may launch on March 24!!!
