connect laptop to tv

Hi im trying to connect my laptop to my tv but the tv just says no signal, im using a vga do i need to do anything else, please help as im getting frustrated lol. many thanks.

BTW you don't tune your external TV source like VGA or S-video, it'll be an one of the EXT channels (normally a button on the remote which looks like a TV screen with an arrow going into it)

What laptop do you have?
Older ones also have S-video out

That's right, sometimes it's just labelled source. Toggle through that.
