Re: 50Mb areas

Just trying to figure why the DSL Zone speed tester doesn't work with my 50mb connection. It worked just fine on 20 mb.

By the way. I just have to be pleased with this test result.

As also stated in a few places the uBR you are on is the bit after 'cpc' - I've bolded it in your quote.

I think yours is supposed to be Berkhamsted.

Can Vm not see that modem MAC: XXXXXXXXXX is registered with a docsis 1.1 config and not a docsis 3 with a 50mb.

i dont know how it all works but there must be some way VM can see where the connection is coming from and block/disconnect the line! every modem has an individual IP.

Again reading on another fourm i have seen people sharing software disabling bpi+ (don't know what this is but seems to be VM's Security software)

Broadbandings you seem to know a lot about this stuff?!? your thoughts :/

Without going into too much detail (as this is against forum rules) as long as the person being cloned is on another UBR virgin cant tell as there is no system that checks for duplicate macs on multiple UBR's. If you want a more technical explanation PM me

Re: 50Mb areas

I don't want to derail this thread but I assume there's solid technical reasons why MAC's while going through the initial registration phase cant be blacklisted on all other UBR's.

Re: 50Mb areas

I don't know whether someone has mentioned this already but I have just been looking at the settings for my modem and noticed the config file is setup for 53mbit The only reason i looked is because I was doing some downloading last night with an accelerator and pulled 10mb/sec for about 20 seconds and was wondering what it was set to.

Yeah people mentioned it was 52mb, but it's really 5300000bps or whatever

Don't listen too much to your accelerator speed, you will pull 6.4mb/s at the max even if it says 7,8,9 mb/s for a few seconds.

Re: 50Mb areas

that is the thing, I downloaded about 30gb when i got out of bed this morning as another test and it was pulling 6mb/sec minimum and would hold around 8 for 30 secs at a time. It is weird but i am loving it.

This is caused by the download accellerator program reporting the speed incorrectly. Because it is calculated in the software it isnt very accurate at times and sometimes sticks for a bit under heavy CPU load and the burst you see is it just catching up. The line is restricted to 5300000 so the max is 6 or so Mb/sec

Virgin media do have a fraud team who pull off the MACS from all UBR's and block duplicates. How effective they are at doing this and how regular they do it, I dont really know, but reading on other forums where the hackers are, they dont seem to overly concerned so I doubt VM are spending a lot of time on this.

The other problem is, you just get 10mb installed yourself and they cant really check anything as your on a single mac address so checking for multi mac is useless in this case.
