Windows Update question

I keep being told I have 5 important Windows Updates. Problem is I don't have Microsoft Office 2003. What I do have is Microsoft Word Viewer, but the update won't download. I have also downloaded Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430) several times, and it has been successful, but still It appears on the new updates. Any ideas please?

Try a reboot that normally works.Then update again

I take it your service packs are upto date? If you do not run office and you machine is secure id jus hide them and not worry about them

Did what you said Hitman, but no joy. I have been trying to download these since the earliest one dated 9th Sept last year.

Thanks Zing, I have been contemplating SP2 but I have been put off by reading the replies in this thread. Would I have to set a restore point first before downloading SP2, or how do I hide the updates please?

SPs normally set a restore point at the start of their installation so setting one manually will not be needed most of the time.

Search for the installation error code in the Windows Update Troubleshooter
Step 1: Locate the installation error code

First, we will ask you to locate the installation error code that your computer recorded when the installation failed. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
On the Windows Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site, click Review your update history. A window opens that shows all the updates that have been installed or that have failed to install on the computer.
In the Status column of this window, locate the update that failed to install, and then click the red X.
A new window opens that displays the installation error code.
Note the error number.

Thanks for that Paul, have decided to go for it and install SP 2 now.

Smee thanks also for your reply. I tried what you said, but it didn't work. So took the bull by the horns and installed SP 2, then tried again, but still no joy. So instead I have hidden the updates, out of sight out of mind, hopefully.
