Re: 50Mb areas
You can get 10Mbit and more out of a single upstream, no need for bonding. That VM don't do it doesn't mean it can't be done, some companies take care of their networks and deployed advanced upstreams a while ago

Re: 50Mb areas
Just had mine done
He was here for about 35/45 minutes.
Checked signal first
Had to sign some bit of paper, nothing major just about him using the PC to check the speed and do the router
Installed Modem
Phoned once to get the hit
Did a direct modem test
Connected the router
Did another speed test
Overall very happy.
Also he re-did the brown box outside as it was falling off the wall

Data rates are policed at the CMTS on 50Mbit so that's a fairly pointless exercise. You might be well served to learn how these things work before handing out accusations of lying.

What the ISP offers and what the equipment can be persuaded to do are very different things.

Re: 50Mb areas
he has just left me, was only round for 15 mins. He only needed to connec the modem and we were away.
The thing which cracked me up is that he wanted to run a speedtest from a dedicated VM site and it only pulled 26mbit down and he was moaning like anything, I told him I would try speedtest.net (which VM says does not support 50mbit) and it worked a charm. Now that's irony for you
Update: Getting 5mb/sec quite nicely on torrents, I'll let you know how newsgroups go.

Too bad it'll still take you 24-48 hours to get to a 1:1 ratio
