HDC-SD100 to Pinnacle Studio V12 Ultimate

Hello all I'm a brand new member as of 10mins ago and totally computer Illiterate or is it illigitimate maybe both see what I want to know and make your own mind up, because I get no sense out of Panasonic and even lessout of Avids subsidary
The Cam is Panasonic HDC-SD100 The software? is Pinnacle Studio v12 Ultimate both new for Christmas 2008
I had a chap tell me I didnt need to capture its already done on the card I explained I had a SonyTRV 60 a 1394 Firewire and Pinnacle 11 Join them to gether and hey presto were in business Bur no now some Grand lighter and cannot make a video(Sony still works but its a bit tired the pins are worn and a new Firewire didnt help)
Right Oh How do I transfer the data on the card in the camera to Studio V12? One way buy the latest SDHC card reader works brilliantly But OH dear Ohdear Oh Dear It takes the computer all evening to put all the information on the time line and the pictures wont keep up with the scrubber at all
Titling is so frustrating NO nigh impossible The computer is 10 times more powerful than Pinnacle states it needs

Hello Georgee.
You mention that you have a SDHC card reader. This is the correct way for transferring the data to your PC.
Are you copying the data off of the SD card and into a folder on your local hard drive or are you editing the data in Pinnacle directly off of the SD card via the reader?

For optimum performance you need to copy the data off the SD card and onto a local hard drive first using the SDHC reader.
Create a folder on your hard drive. e.g: C:\Capture
Insert the SD card in the reader
Copy the contents of the SD card to C:\Capture
Open Pinnacle and import the data from C:\Capture.

For better performance I would have my raw data on a separate hard drive or drive partition. If you have a 2nd drive maybe D: then I would use that instead of C:, especially as you could be talking about 4Gb of data.

Just joined the site so hello. Should I capture onto my external hard drive then import to studio? Ext hard drive is via USB2 so was concerned might be slow. Daft question maybe but I presume I don't install studio on external drive as well?

you do need to capture it (think the camera comes with software to do the covert to avc)unless you use expensive software to reencode the files. They are not stored as standard avc files. My dad has a HD camcorder panasonic and I had some of these files. Convertxtodvd will convert to dvd format but its not very good. I would recommend something like Magix

In this case of Georgee, he has a camera capable of HD video.
You do not want to mess around with the source files before editing them with Pinnacle Studio. Georgee has Pinnacle Studio 12. This is capable of editing in HD.
ConvertxtoDVD is fine if you do not want to cut or edit the movie before burning to DVD. However, you might as well let Pinnacle Studio sort this out for you if you have bought the product.
Berlumberley - To answer your question, I would recommend that you copy your data onto an internal driver before importing into Pinnacle Studio. This would give you optimum performance during editing \ compiling and DVD burning. Once you have finished editing and have a compiled and burned the completed movie, then you can copy the results back for storage on the USB drive.
....and you do not need to install Pinnacle Studio on the external drive.

what I am saying is the files the panasonic camera puts on the card are not standard files. I was just playing with the files the end result we are aiming for is BD format and we decided on Magix. My Dad is having a new pc built before he starts messing
