New Driver for 50Mbit Wireless N USB Adapter

If you are using the Netgear Wireless 'N' Adapter supplied by Virgin as part of the XXL broadband you need to update the drivers to get the best performance

Re: New Driver for 50Mbit Wireless N USB Adapter

cheers

Will give this a go when I get home tonight - up until now, this adapter has been as about much use as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking competition

I'd love to hear just how much of an improvement this offers, if any?

Re: New Driver for 50Mbit Wireless N USB Adapter

virgin need to tell custmers you must use WPA2 securty (not sure about when no security) to get 6-8MB/s down the wireless (wep or WPA1 less then 3MB/s avg)

allso the router is setup in 150mbs mode default, there is 300mbs support But some wireless devices do not work with it as it uses 2 chans to get better speed and it confuse some devices (google G1 phone counts as none worky)

Re: New Driver for 50Mbit Wireless N USB Adapter

tried the new software - can't see any difference in performance at all

still getting poor speeds unless I'm on top of the wireless router

leexgx - didn't know about the WPA2 setting requirement (the installer this week just set it up with WPA1) - will try that tonight

Re: New Driver for 50Mbit Wireless N USB Adapter

Note that N kit degrades speed very close to the router, you need to be a couple of metres away. (At least that was the case with the early pre-N that I have).

Re: New Driver for 50Mbit Wireless N USB Adapter

with the new software, and changing to WPA2 on the router, still no difference (and still cocks up my native wireless settings when I remove the dongle's software)

Yup I'm pretty sure it's AES encryption 'N' needs otherwise it falls back to 'G' speeds

I assume AES is a setting that is enabled via the router setup? Or by the dongle setup?
