recovering a deleted memory card?

While I was formatting the other day I noticed Windows showed me a 7.9gb partition which I deleted along with the the main partition of my harddrive. It wasn't until later that I realised the 7.9gb was an 8gb memory card I'd put in my card reader.

Although I know I've lost whatever was on it, I can't even open the 'drive' now. When I plug the card in to the usb via the reader, it shows up in My Computer as another drive but I cannot access it, instead getting the message 'please insert a disk into removable drive'.

Have I totally nuked my memory card or can it be repaired?

Re: recovering a deleted memory card?

You could try the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool? Not sure how it would work with memory cards though as ive only used it with USB sticks.

Worked perfectly! Thank you sir!

Was a bit sceptical at first because the Vista formatting tool couldn't do it but that did the trick

Try the freeware tool Recuva http://www.recuva.com/, it was able to get back 152 of 154 images from my niece's SD card after she formatted it in error.

I'd already tried that, none of the images on there could be viewed with Windows Gallery (which didn't bother me as I'd already uploaded them to flickr) and the music came back in bits, like some songs would start in the middle of the track. Not to worry as I already had everything backed up but slightly annoying all the same.
