Re: 50Mb areas
Just ran up and it's not available at my address yet - how long does it normally take between these "announcements" and availability?

Re: 50Mb areas
Hi,
I've read through most of this thread, and as Seven Kings area is now enabled i just called up sales (0845 454 1111) to upgrade, under the impression that it'd cost me an extra £10 a month, plus the installation fee.
The sales guy i spoke to has just quoted me an Extra £23 per month! but told me that i should go to the Virgin Media website and have a look at the new packages to try and get a better deal to add another service. I'm already on the VIP package, which i pointed out to him but he still told me there is nothing he can do as the price is £23 a month and XXL broadband isn't included in any packages, but will be from next month.
Did i speak to an idiot or is this right?

Re: 50Mb areas
I am in Lincoln and just did a postcode check and I can now get 50mb if I wish.
I also got a new IP last night and on the connection tab on CF I get cpc4-linc11-2-0-custXXX.12-1.cable.virginmedia.com
It was showing ntl or ntlworld.com instead of virginmedia.com

You got one of the Numpty's, it's only £10 extra a month but dont forget you will be signing up for TV, Phone V.I.P + 50mb for another 12 months.
I am on the Seven Kings exchange, and so far not impressed, so let me know how your results are as I have made 4 tech support calls already and they said they have high utilisation at times causing my download to drop to 28mb at worst and averaging 35mb during these periods.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm probably going to leave it for now, to see if these new deals materialise next month. The incompetence of the guy annoyed me so i don't want to get into signing a new 12 month contract just yet. I only really want the additional upload speed as i use Slingbox quite a lot when i'm out of the country.

Have you considered contacting the 2nd line support on the Newsgroups? Might be worthwhile.
Ah never mind, you have and they haven't responded yet.

At this moment in time, I haven't got anymore than 1.1mb upload speed, so be careful if thats your main driver.
Also it just went down again for the 5th time in two days now. It's come back up and my download rate has dropped to 56k a second lol.
50mb at its very best :P

HAHA Sold - Where do i sign up?
What were your speeds like on 20meg? I get the full speeds practically all the time, with only a bit of a slow down in the evening.

20mb was always perfect. They have already moved across 400 20mb users onto the DOCSIS3 network in Seven Kings.
Support are looking at the issues for me, but if things dont change in the next 48 hours I'm using my 7 day get out clause to go back to 20mb, because at this moment in time 50mb is giving me hardly anymore than 20mb used to.
I loved my 20mb, bring back the NTL 250 Blue Modem, all is forgiven :p
And for the record, at 1am things do improve a lot. But I want 50mb when I'm on my PC not whilst I am in bed. At 1am this morning downloads were 44mb and uploads a little better.

Re: 50Mb areas
Hi,
This £80 setup cost they charge is it added to the next bill, or do you need to pay it when you order ?

I get a solid 20mb 99% of the time except when i speed test on Maidenhead!
Use thinkbroadband.com, London (speedtest.net) or download a large iso from Usenet and use a wired connection

Re: 50Mb areas
Got installed today, haven't had time to play as engineers were there for 3 hours, I then had to go out. The engineer did a speed test, quite impressed got 49.1Mbit down, didn't test the upload. Was having problems with the Wireless connection mind you. Will update more when I get home, sometime later.
FYI, I'm also on the Seven Kings UBR.

I've tried them all, dont worry, also the Virgin 50mb test page as well as uploaded multi files at the same time to my own site, and always receive 1 to 1.1mb upload rate. Only time 50mb is really at its best is after 1am. At this time you get speeds of 44mb to 48mb and 1.4mb upload speed in my area. Tech support have already said their is large spikes on the DOCSIS3 network (Over 83%) and there is only seven 50mb users on the Seven Kings exchange and four hundred 20mb users are shared evenly. Things are only going to get worse for us.
When I had tech support on the line, I was given live utilisation readings, I kicked off 3gb of downloads at the same time from the Virgin Game Site and as the Utilisation peaked over 83% my combined download speed dropped to 28mb, when it dropped back to 60%, my download rate went up to 35 to 38mb.
Unless their is more hardware work to be done in these exchanges, its poor, very poor. Only 1 week after my area has been launched the network is struggling. Some poeple will say their 50mb is fine etc etc, but it all depends on who you are sharing with. As more 50mb users come online and more 20mb are migrated across, I'm expecting the very worst from this service.

You are one of the lucky ones for now. Out of the two, one has more 20mb users on than the other so you will be ok until more users migrate then welcome to my world.
Update:
Yep everyone is coming home from work and on queue:
------------------------------------------------------------------
File size transferred : 100.0 MB (104857600 bytes)
Total time taken : 32.09 seconds (32089 milliseconds)
Throughput : 3267.0 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second]
= 3.27 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second]
= 26136.0 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second]
= 26.14 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]
My connection is hardly better than the 20mb I had before. What a pile of crap.
