Re: connecting pc to tv

3.5mm to phono (red + white cable) for the sound and a standard VGA cable, male to male, unless your laptop and TV is DVI, then a DVI cable.

Re: connecting pc to tv

you will need a vga lead for the video and either 3.5mm - 3.5mm jack lead for the audio or 3.5mm to 2 rca phono connections.

whats the make and model of the tv?

the audio in will probably say pc audio in and will most likely be a 3.5mm jack.

Re: connecting pc to tv

Dependent on whether you need Male-Male or Male-Female, one of the following:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97365 - M-F
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97367 - M-M

And then for sound, presumeably one of these:

Check your TV has the audio input, and that it works with the VGA connector. I'd imagine it does, but it's always worth checking; it might not.

As for the cables, you might be able to get them cheaper from elsewhere, so shop around.

Re: connecting pc to tv

Thanks all, I have got the picture working with a vga-vga cable from Maplin, just the sound to sort out, TV has all sorts of audio inputs, it is a Samsung 46" projection HD Tv. Laptop doesn't appear to have any audio out connections apart from headphone socket, presume I would have to get a jack plug to RCA connection.

Re: connecting pc to tv

either jack to jack or jack to phono

most tv's use a jack connection on the back with pc audio input underneath it my toshiba just says pc/hdmi 1, audio input which is a jack socket where as an old hitachi that my dad had used phono connections.

look on the back and see if it says pc audio input and see what jack or jacks are around it.
