Exclamation New to Virgin

Hi all, I only had Virgin installed today, pleased with broadband, but not impressed with the quality of the picture through the Virgin box, my tv picture is very good with virgin box turned off !! They have installed a old looking Samsung box, Should I ask for it to be replaced or is this normal for all these boxs, I would appreciate your comments.

What type of TV do you have, a CRT or LCD/Plasma

SD TV looks poor on the LCD/Plasma, have you ensured that you are using RGB though the SCART

The Samsung boxes and newer than the old PACE boxes

I have a 1 year old Samsung LCD tv using the RGB scart & a really good picture on its own, does this mean I really need to upgrade to V+ box, would this give me a better picture? I expected a pretty good picture from a standard Virgin box.

Re: New to Virgin

I was happy with my Samsung TV and set top box

V+ will give you a superior picture as it will upscale

Don't foget that the display setting in the Samsung menu should also be set to RGB and not Composite.

Thanks for being so honest, its certainly brightend up my day. You'd be surprised by the amout of people who make the same mistake - people even expect their STB or V+ to improve the picture quality of something on "Dave" filmed in the 70's

As they say.... You cant polish a turd!

I could tell you it would be poor - std V-box/Sky+/freeview tuner via analogue scart are not really suitable for HD TV

Do know what it would cost to upgrade to V+ box. I may have messed up, only had VM since 10th Feb, when I was placing my order the salesman said not to bother with V+ as they are always doing promotions and he said get one later. Now it looks like I would have pay £99 install cost.

Re: New to Virgin

I made this same mistake (I made a post "First thoughts on V+) I was watching Frazier on Paramount, and was very dissapointed, after all I'd heard about the upscaling abilities of the V+. Then I watched something on Channel 5 or ITV1, and the picture really did justify the hype.
