Re: New Mobo Time

Glad to see your psu isn't the problem i have discovered recently my 700w is on it's way out causing the system to crash and freeze when power draw goes up but buying a new one to gaurantee that won't be a problem. I have a friend that has the board i linked to and he is very happy with it and hasn't had any major problems.

I have the DS5 version and while an excellent board as it has the 10 sata ports i needed is a bit on the costly side for a normal upgrade. Either way gigabyte and asus have a lot of support on a lot of forums so your safe buying either one as most problems can be sorted quickly with a bit of searching so good luck with whatever you buy and hope it sorts it for you .

Re: New Mobo Time

It is a good board i havn't had a single problem with it and it recognised 8gig of ram with no problems so if you have the extra cash i would recommend it. One of the main reasons i got it was that when you get one of the latest higher end cards they can block some sata ports so having 10 of them sorted that .

Re: New Mobo Time

how big are are the sinks on that? will it have any trouble with thermalright-120? wouldn't fancy having to unnecessarily get another cooler.

if you buy or find the angled sata cables you will find that any possibly problems with large gfx cards are eleviated

it does as it's plugged into the k/b to..........

a) save using a port
b) stop any snagging on the cable

it starts normally for a couple of seconds, but fails to show post screen or windows splash. not sure how heat would affect it on boot up, but the last time i checked both cores running idle sat at around 26°c/27°c but will recheck in a bit.
Had exactly the same problem with a clients PC thought it was mobo but after changing mobo found that it was processor, when booted up it would do the mobo splash for a sec then nothing and every other reboot there was nothing at all changed processor then all fine. Am only saying this coz you dont want 2 go buying new mobo just 2 find same problem I did lol.

Re: New Mobo Time

I had no problems and didn't need to alter anything to fit my tuniq tower on to the board never had a TRUE so not completely sure on them but can't imagine them being bigger then a TT120 . Yeah angled cables can help Zing but on 2 of the ports even angled cables were not 100% good with a 4870X2 so having the spare ports was a good thing. Horses for courses as it is with all components really i read some reviews websites then some user reviews amazing how often they differ and then read support forums to see if something seems to have a lot of problems. It comes down to how much you want to spend and how comfortable you are with the component your going to buy i was able to have a good look at a DS5 before i bought it and was happy.

Re: New Mobo Time

cheers rizzy, the tr120 is still a bit of a chunky chap. and as for the gfx/sata problem - i'm still running a 8800gts-320 and is ok on my current board.
