Disk Partiton

Hi all,

I've just rebuilt a laptop using the hidden recovery partiton.

For some reason (after the rebuild and in Windows) I can see a 1.56GB partiton. It wasn't there before the rebuild so I can anly think it was a created by the recovery software.

Can I add this space back into the C: paration?

It's currently set to "Unallocated" and all I can do to it is create a simple volume. When I click on the C: partiton I only have an option to shrink the partition - not expand...

Any ideas?

Cheers

Lee

Thanks - nope! Would not allow me to resize the C: partition to include the unallocated space...

'parted magic' is very good. I use it at work (and home occassionally). http://partedmagic.com/

You'll need to allocate the space (create partition) and then format the partition then merge the 1.5gb partition into C:\ so it becomes a part of C:\.

You wont be able to merge unallocated space into allocated space.

I always used to use partition magic for XP (dont work in vista, well V8 dont) found EASUS yesterday and it works great. So another vote for EASUS

I don't think you can alter the system partition while it's in use.

If I remember correctly you'll need to use a live-cd like gparted.

Re: Disk Partiton

IIRC (not 100% sure about EASUS) but with Partition magic you merge new partition into C:\ and click apply. Then on reboot it will run the batch file to merge the 2 partitions.

Looking at EASUS it seems that merge function is missing. Or I'm missing something

Re: Disk Partiton

Oh well - I'll just have to miss 1.5GB of disk space - or I'll just use as it is...

Re: Disk Partiton

format as NTFS, then use Truecrypt to turn it into an encrypted vault

That way you don't lose the vault (and contents) when you reinstall next and you've always got a little vault handy for those files that need safe storage
