Is this PC any good?

..for the price?

Been considering getting another PC so junior can use this one (also Aldi supplied, spec. below) for homework. surfing etc. Would this be a good buy for a novice like me who just wants a simple life?....

Cheers!

Re: Is this PC any good?

Because the max 32bit reports is 3.5gb

It will be an ok pc for the price, but you will probably want to be changing the GFX at some point if you like your games high quality.

The gfx is not very good

It all depends on what you want to use it for and how much you really want to spend max.My usual advice is come up with a max spend and then add at least 10% lol tell us what you need it for and how much you are prepared to spend absolute max and we can see what we can find

Re: Is this PC any good?

ahhh right. Not into games on the PC so no issues there. So only 4gb isn't great for Vista 32bit then?....

Re: Is this PC any good?

Well it will still run fine but you need a 64bit OS to get the max out of the CPU and RAM.

lol - I just want a PC which I can operate, won't cost a bomb and won't let me down all the time. My current low spec Medion has been fine for what I use it for but is getting old so an upgrade is on the cards at some point and this seemed very reasonable at face value to a novice like me....

Oh right I see - is the problem the other way around then i.e. the CPU and RAM are far more than is required to run the Vista version being supplied??...

Re: Is this PC any good?

That's the sort of language I like Zing.....

I was wondering about the AMD processor - do you know anything about them? I don't want to be buying something which might have reliability issues in that area.

Re: Is this PC any good?

I don't know anything about the AMD processors as i stopped using them a couple of years back but i used to sell Medions many moons ago and found them surprisingly good for the price, they come with nice warranties too.

Re: Is this PC any good?

"64 bit is included on the dvd" does that mean you could install that over the 32 bit OS?

Depends on the licence on the PC. I doubt it though. All our corp keys at work differ from 32 to 64 bit OS's.

I build plenty of AMD systems still. You have to cater for the budget and you can get a better balance of performance over value when using AMD. < 400 quid machines are easier to spec with a profit than Intel

Our primary supplier at work (Stone Computers/Compusys) does this. However, we use our own OS installs. one for XP with SP3, and one each for 32 and 64 bit Vista (both with SP1).

Funnily enough, very little of our software gains much from the 64bit architecture (we have some software that really does take advantage of it, but not much), but we found that users were complaining that they weren't getting the 4gig (or more) of RAM that they asked (and in some cases paid) for.
