I think I should explain that a little. I don't take my ipod as I don't want to risk it being nicked (it tends to live in my jacket pocket). I tend to keep my phone in my trouser pocket, so it is handy if I ever need to call someone (like a cab at the end of the night).
Even with a 40Gb 3rd gen iPod (vintage - that's how I roll ) my iPod has been relegated to 2nd music player. My k850 with an 8Gb card in it has enough music on it for riding around on subways and commuting etc and fits in my jeans / trouser pocket nicely. The iPod and noise cancelling headphones are not used on longer journeys, planes, trains, automobiles and the like.

re: The iPhone thread

One small glitchette.

I have iTunes on my home PC, for my original 80GB video iPod and iTouch. Work set up my work iPhone and iTunes on my work laptop, which means I can't transfer music from my home iTunes to my work iPhone, as it threatens to erase it and sync, which would p off my Tech Support guys (and, as I'm their boss, I try not to do that too much).

You need to change the settings so it manually syncs and you choose what music to put on it.

I have my iPhone set up and working on my iMac and also Windows laptop, and have it set to manaully update my iPhone.

Tried that - I set up a playlist on iTunes with a subset of the music,
- clicked on my iPhone in "Devices"
- unclicked "sync only checked songs and videos"
- clicked "manually manage music and videos"
- clicked "Apply"

After clicking "Apply", I got the message
"The iPhone "xxxxxxx's iPhone" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?

An iPhone can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing will replace the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."

I decided not to risk it.

re: The iPhone thread

I've never had that message before.

My little bro also copies music from my iTunes to his iPod Nano that is sync'd to a different PC altogether and have never come across that message.

You might need to tick the box you unticked.

Tried that too - just got the same message (also tried ticking both boxes, same result).

re: The iPhone thread

ok just recieved it today, fast delivery

however problem - from the left side of the screen, there are three minor parts where there is some light leakage which can be seen in the dark but not so much in the light - my worry of course dust, water etc getting inside hence ruining the phone i paid £390 and as a student thats a lot.

so what now should I replace it for brand new one from o2 or is this to be expected from all iphones? have you guys got any leakage and by how much? - if it is then not good I tell you....

I've not noticed anything like that with my 13 day old iPhone - although your comments have made me take the air jacket off mine & stare at it in the dark to check lol.

It's not normal, Replace it. Do you have an Apple Store near you? If so, book an appointment and go see them.

re: The iPhone thread

Question regarding charging an iPhone abroad...

Right, so the iPhone comes with the USB power adaptor thing, which has two parts:

1) The actual power adaptor, with the figure of 8 connector on one side & the USB port on the other.

2) UK plug adaptor to connect to the figure of 8 on the USB thing.

The main USB bit says it works with 100-240V & 50-60Hz, but the UK plug bit says only 250V & 50Hz.

So, I assume I can't simply whack a travel adaptor on the UK plug part, to make it a US plug?

As the USB adaptor bit itself is universal, can you buy a US plug for it on its own? Or do you have to spend ££££ buying the Apple travel kit which seems to come with every kind of plug imaginable?

re: The iPhone thread

Is the UK plug simply a plug, or is it a transformer, or something else with electronics on board? If it's simply something that allows you to connect your USB cable to a wall socket, then it should be fine if you attach it to a travel adaptor and plug it into a US wall outlet.

TBH even if it does have electronics in it, you're unlikely to damage it by putting half the voltage through it that it's rated for. You would have to be more cautious if you were bringing US kit to the UK.

re: The iPhone thread

It's an official "iPod USB Power Adaptor".

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB...mco=MjE0ODcyNw

I think the UK plug part is just basically a UK plug, while the other part (with a connector for the plug on one side & a USB port for the iPod/iPhone's dock>USB cable on the other side) is I assume the actual AC adaptor.

Apple sell a collection of plugs to fit the unit that has the USB port on it.

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/M8...mco=MTIxODk3Mw

Bit pricey though when all I want is a US plug.

Although, thinking about it, Mrs D has a 3rd party iPod charger with dock connector at one end & 100-240V 50-60Hz AC adaptor UK plug at the other end - I'd guess it would definitely be OK to stick a US travel plug on the plug end of that.
