42lg7000 & samsumg virgin box conflict

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice/help. I have just taken delivery of a 42lg7000 and am well impressed. However it seems to have throw up a problem. When i installed it on sunday everything was great. then on monday night my samsung cable box(2110-c) started to take on a mind of it's own. It would change channels, bring up menus, change the volume and all sorts of weird stuff on it's own. Took the batteries out all the remotes i could find and it was still doing it. Changed the scart and the input cable, to no avail. I then decided that the box had developed a fault so i did all the reset stuff virgin recommend, still no luck. I gave up and phoned virgin, who sent a refresh signal to the box, still the same. So they sent out an engineer today (2hrs late). He put a new samsung box in (straight out the wrapper) and it did the same. At this point he decided the LG was causing it, he tried the box with no scart connection and it kept doing random things (the green led on the front kept flashing as if it was receiving a signal). Finnally he out in an old PACE box he had in his van and it worked fine. I realised later on that the only thing different from sunday to monday was that i had removed the co-axial cable that connected the tv to my loft ariel. I am therefore wondering if this had somehow been grounding a signal, or is there a fault in the new LG. Does anyone else have similar stories or advice. Unfortunately i was at work when the virgin guy was there and he took the samsung away, so i cannot test my theory. Now I'm stuck with the old,slow PACE box

Its unlikly it was the co-ax.

Do you have low enegy light bulbs? this may sound like a silly question but they have been know to give of simmilar ir radiation to remote controllers and so intefear with cable boxes. Same can bee said for the backlight in LCD TV's

Hi thanks for the reply, i don't have any low energy bulbs downstairs and the ones i have upstairs weren't on. I think you could be right about the back light,but i couldn't find any similar threads, so ithought it was something new. If i could get my samdung box back i could try shielding it from the backlight. I had a look at the bottom of the LG and its pretty open, where the speakers are, and sitting on a glass clear glass shelf right above the box. So your idea sounds very plausible.
any other ideas welcome.

Well you can easily find out whether it's the TV causing it by simply turning the TV off while the cable box is going haywire - if the green light stops flashing it's probably the TV, although it sounds so odd I feel stupid saying it!

Out of interest, is the Pace box you have now a 1000, a 2000 or a 4000 model?

The engineer now has the samdung box, so i cannot recheck it. When i tried this test the box did not settle down, but when he tried it (while i was at work). He said the box settled down. Maybe it's me thats causing it. lol. The pace box i have now is a di4010-n.

Hello all.
I always read on this forum and thought it is about time to make my first post...

I was doing searches on the web for this same problem and ended up here.

I called VM and they sent me a new remote control.
Still had the problem.
So I called again and an engineer came over with a new (Samsung) box.
First started going on about the energy saving bulb, but that wasn't it.

After some time, we found out it works fine when the TV is off.
So we knew it was the LG.
We moved the box about and covered it in cardboard until we were sure the problem was the TV interfering.
I went into the settings and noticed the Bluetooth was on.
I turned it off and the cable box became more responsive but there's still problems.

The TV might be sending some kind of strong (I'm guessing infra-red) signal down which blocks or modifies the IR signal coming from the remote.
(I have previously tried using 2 remote controls at the same time and found out that it doesn't work)

The backlight theory sounds possible too but would there be a big difference between this backlight and the backlight in my old Viera 32" ?

I too have a glass stand. Seems like I have to cover the box with something, which isn't good for ventilation and not so great on the eyes.

So... any ideas?

My bluetooth has never been on and the problems i had were persistant and irritating. My box is directly below my tv, so the problem may have been exaggerated by the close proximity. other than moving the Samsung box well away from the tv the only option i have found is to get virgin to give you an old pace box which is much less astheticallly pleasing and slower to respond(due to the older software/firmware). Sorry i havn't got a better solution because i can no longer test the Samsung box (virgin engineer took it away).

I had exactly the same problem with the same TV and virgin box. After numerous resets , a new remote and a brand new box from virgin with a visit from the engineer, the problem persisted.
I was about to give up when I found out it was caused by the
"Intelligent sensor" which adjusts the picture brightness relative to the ambient light.
Turn it off (reset to standard picture) and the problem will stop immediately!

I've tried this with the Pace box and it does seem more responsive. it was a bit sluggish to respond to the remote. but at least it isn't possessed like the samsung was. If I ever get a samsung back I'll let everyone know. If anyone has the Samsung, give this solution a try and let us all know :-)

We'd had a Samsung 2110 working fine with a Beko TV and then bought a 37LG7000 LCD TV last Xmas and then our problems started ! The STB went berserk when we turned the TV on, finding one channel (which we had never even watched) after another - sometimes freezing, so we had to reboot it.
Virgin changed the box for the same model but we still had problems. Last week they changed the box for the previous model, the Samsung 2100C and 'lo and behold' - all our problems have gone away and it all works perfectly now !
We have suggested to Virgin that all their engineers are told about this because the ones who came out to us said that there were no known problems with LG TVs.

I would love for someone to correct my settings.
I can never seem to get it right for my different inputs. (CABLE, XBOX)
