Error 20

Hello All

I recently purchased a ntl Pace Di4010 Digital Cable Receiver and when i tried to plug it into my setup, it came up with an error message "error 20" on the unit's display. The message on the TV screen asks me to check that the cable has not become lose/disconnected. I currently have an analogue unit from ntl and thought all i needed to receive the additional channels was a digital receiver but without obtaining one from ntl.

Have I bought a dud unit? Cn i do something to rectify this problem myself ?

Firstly-

Secondly-I've moved this into the Cable TV Discussion forum.

Thirdly-what do you mean you've "bought" an STB?

You clearly haven't bought it from ntl as they don't sell them-they only supply them with their DTV packages, but the box need to be registered against a live ntl DTV account (which I'm guessing you don't have?)

[Edit]-Simple answer is to phone up ntl & ask them to upgrade you from analogue to digital.

i thought error 20 was a dead box , but nevermind i cant see how you will be able to use it as it is stolen property and the police might be interested in where you got it from

, so i wouldnt go ringing up ntl and complaining it wont work

As neil said, the only way you'll get DTV is to ring up NTL customer services and ask to be upgraded to the digital service. Serial numbers on the box and the smart card need to be matched up to your account details with NTL. Not sure which region you're in, but it wouldn't take long for an engineer to swap you over to digital. It's a case of taking your old box out, putting the digi box in, checking your signal levels and away to go.

and as a result of that , trying to get it connected to ntl's network and getting found out would render you in effect ' handling stolen goods ' , like i said bin it or try and get a refund

I always tell people about "ebay boxes" that they are a waste of money and if your an ntl customer already you should have known about all equipment is rented off them. As for getting your money back of the ebayer I could guess what he will say and it will no doubt have 4 letters in, as you have bought stolen property you will not have a leg to stand on......
