New deal - any good?
Hi
I dont want to hijack anyone elses thread so excuse me for posting a new one.
My current service charges are £78.50 a month for BB-M ,TV -XL(plus skysports collection and kids) and phone with free w/e calls to Land line nos' only.....hence time to ring them up!
My usual monthly bill is £120..so im paying over £40 on calls (mainly local LL and mobiles) and this is going up due to 3 kids and a mother in law
Ive been offered the same package for £60..or £69 with talk unlimited and talk mobile as well.....plus 1 x £10 off for being pointed towards saynot0870!
Looking at past bills this should equate to at least £30 off my all in monthly bill.
Sky will do a similar deal for £7 a month cheaper (plus £75 for the box) so no difference over a year really.
Any thoughts? Ive said yes but have 7 days to change my mind...

Re: New deal - any good?
cheers
so for £15 more than my 'new deal' of £69 I will get 20mg broadband (instead of 10) and skysports movies plus a V box.
Our current broadband is obviously restricted during the evenings, any idea what the 20meg would get squeezed down to...my son is a PS3 and PC gaming nut
Also whats a V box?..is it worth having?

The V box is like a sky digibox, it's what connects your TV services to your TV .
The broadband isn't 'restricted' in the evenings as such, it just has a limit which is quite high and gaming will not trigger the speed decrease.

Re: New deal - any good?
of course...i should have said V +
Well now i know what a V+ is i quite fancy one, however Virgin have just told me i cant have the £86 VIP deal as im a current customer...and didnt seem particulary helpful when i just rang them
sky will do 16meg broadband, talk unlimited/international, skysports/mix/kids movie mix, plus sky plus box for £60 a month plus £75 for the box
its a no brainer.. works out cheaper than my 'current' deal plus i get faster broadband, sky movies and skyplus!!
thanks for the advice... i think im off to sky

be careful as bt only allow 8mb to most parts of the country and the cances of you getting the 16mb are next to nil :P
just ring up virgin and say what can you offer me as this company blah blah is offering this this and this how can you compare to that and they should give you some options

Can you elaborate when you say that gaming doesnt trigger the speed decrease?
Do you mean that gaming doesnt use enough bandwidth to be STMd

Ok thanks, i am kind of worried about tripping the STM because my family tend to use very bandwidth demanding applications, at least 3 of them stream videos for hours at a time

Ignore this guy...
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, most exchange are now unbundled/LLU, chances are unless your quite far away you'll get more than 8Mbit and without any STM nonscence.

Re: New deal - any good?
Thanks, Ive gone with the VIP package for £86 a month as stated but just a few quick questions.
My current modem is a 255. Will this handle up to 20 meg or will they replace it. (if so they may need a reminder )
My router is a belkin wireless G..(appreciate this isnt supported by Virgin) but likewise will it handle 20meg? ...I dont suppose Virgin supply routers on this deal?
many thanks

I have a 255 which does 20 Mb/s with no problems - I can't comment on the router, though ..
