Fixing new fan to PC ???

Hi all

My PC now sounds like a train and when I turn it off and fan 'grinds' to a halt.

Is fitting a new fan a simple process.....???

Any advice

If its a fan off the cpu,side or the back of your case should be easy enough to replace, if its one off a graphics card or motherboard you will have big problems and should contact the manufacturer direct.

Opened PC up fan and unit behind fan totally caked in dust ...took it out quick brush and replaced it and much better now.

Mmmm maybe, but only to clean it, not to leave it on, the wd 40 goes on your cleaning cloth/kitchen roll not sprayed directly on/near the bearings, its not "thick" enough to lubricate properly. At a push 3 in one oil (one drop) would be better.
Having said all that, it would be safer buying a new fan

If you try to open the fan bearings and put any kind of oil, that will be the end of it, you'll have to do this every couple of months. The bearings are sealed and use special kind of grease, if you add oil, it will wash it out and dry. Better buy a new fan, costs 5-10 quid or so.
