BT Broadband hell !
About 2 weeks ago my daughter who moved to Bristol ordered BT Broadband Option 1 with Free Wireless Hub, on line. After about a week what she received from BT was a out dated wired hub..here we go again..after couple of hours of phone calls and 7 different BT operators I was connected to a BT operator in India !! As we had a difficult communication problem she could not understand what the problem was and insisted BT did not offer Free Wireless Broadband with Option 1.I asked her to check it on the Internet but she said she did not have access to Internet !! But just in case she placed another order and as a goodwill BT would charge for the Internet service when my daughter received the Wireless Hub ( she was not joking ) Well..what can I say ..God bless you Virgin Media

I don't see how she could do that as BT would not know when you received the wireless hub. First she tells you they don't offer wireless hubs (wireless router?), then says that she will order another of something that they don't offer, then says they will start charging for it later when it arrives, a date that they would of course not be aware of. Sounds like total BS to get you off the phone to me. If I were you I would cancel BT, go buy yourself a wireless dsl router from ebuyer.com (free wireless is not worth jack these days), and sign up with one of the many quality DSL providers (BT is not one of these as you know). And if you don't cancel, I would watch your bill like a hawk and make sure you record the name of every person you spoke to. I record my conversations now with companies like this.

Re: BT Braodband hell !
I used to be with BT as a back up connection but moved to titanadsl so much better but i decided to give virgin able a go and even better. Best thing to do is get your daughter to leave bt and mve to titanadsl or adsl24.

Re: BT Braodband hell !
I used to be with Tiscali's "super-fast broadband" , that claim in itself was a joke...VM has its faults, but I for one will not be going back to adsl.

Re: BT Broadband hell !
The current offer is if you signup on the web you get the v 1.5 homehub free on option one (can upgrade to homehub 2.0 for extra charge) Not sure about on the phone.
Options 2 and 3 come with a Homehub 2.0 anyway afaik.

Tiscali are enough to put someone off the internet full stop. They are truly appauling and not typical of ADSL, just of ADSL that's incredibly cheap and equally nasty

Re: BT Broadband hell !
I'm glad plusnet saw sense and put a stop to their switch to Tiscali's ADSL2 network, basically because it was crap. I'd rather have a reliable ADSLMax connection than a substandard ADSL2 one.

I agree to hell with adsl and bt and anything that uses a bt line.
They still use equipment that was given to them by the goverment 60 yers ago.
Digital is the way to go (vm). The rest are crap, been there, done it.

Re: BT Broadband hell !
ADSL and cable both transport broadband using analogue signals
I dunno for all the stuff about BT lines Be gave me an upstream 3 times that which VM do, on one of these lines given to BT by the government 60 years ago, and for £15 a month less. Brush, tar, etc

Re: BT Broadband hell !
We've had BT BB Option 3 for the last 2.5 years. We live about 2km from the exchange and when we started we regularly got 3 - 4Mbs. The last two weeks the service has dropped to anywhere between 750Kbps and 1.5Mbps. These are best speeds at off peak.
Calls to BT have gone unanswered and when I got through to the Indian call centre they blamed my internal wiring. I tried explaining that the hub was conected direct to master socket with no extensions so any 'internal wiring' fault would be between the street and THEIR master socket! Got the standard reply that they can send an engineer but it may cost if no fault is found.
Thankfully we're now moving, we were going to take BT with us but have now cancelled and arranged a Virgin Media (Sweet 16 package) which will be installed the day after we move.

Re: BT Broadband hell !
If you were in the main socket (test socekt is preferable) and had done the checks given to you then there would be no risk of a charge. It is up to the support person to get you through the checks correctly and ensure that the engineer goes out if needed. These issues can sometimes be down to:
Faulty filter
faulty cable from filter to router/ modem
faulty socket
faulty line equipment between socket and exchange

I had the same problem as you, I suppose the distance to the exchange & more people being added between u & it will be the problem.
BT need to build more exchanges to illiminate this distance from the exchange problem.

Not complaining though as I've now got a spare if anything goes wrong.
