NTLworld email with O2 broadband

Hi All

I have a NTL email account set up in outlook, always has worked fine, but since moving to o2 broadband (not in cabled area in new house) I cannot send emails from this account in outlook (receiving is fine)

Is there a reason for this?

many Thanks,
Barry,

Re: NTLworld email with O2 broadband

You will only be able to send ntl emails when connected to ntl [vm] network.
Unless....
You use the webmail service.

Hope this helps.

Partially incorrect

You'll need to use the SMTP server for the connection, You can't use NTL/VM's SMTP server unless you connect via NTL/VM's cable/ADSL.

So set up your SMTP server to use O2's connection and you should be fine unless O2 restrict email addies, in that case you;ll have to find a third party SMTP server.

If you have left NTL/VM then I'd look anyway at transferring you email to another account as eventually VM will terminate that emaill address.

O2 block the use of port 25 (smtp)

I use gmail for my pop mail, and had to change my smtp port, to use port 465 instead.

EDIT: Just to make things clear, have a read of this thread.

O2 won't let you use an outside smtp server on port 25, unless it's O2's own servers.

Re: NTLworld email with O2 broadband

Try setting the smtp server address for your NTL mail account to relay.o2broadband.co.uk. That worked for me and allowed me to send mail from my NTL account.

Re: NTLworld email with O2 broadband

Orange used to block port 25 to external servers, had to set my server to port26 so I could SMTP to it..

Since always. You have to have a static IP and phone up to have it unblocked. Its to stop spamming or something.
