Why do you think that the 50Mb has to be on DOCSIS3

YAWN.........

Now how many times have we had people say "I'm on 50Mb" then go sheepish when they're asked to put up a screen capture of thier modem config page

Re: I have 50Mb.. does anyone else?

I have just spoken to the Virgin media tech guys and they are having trouble at there end of something, so they cant access my account at the minute?
So he going to ring me back, he did tell me however that although I have a 256 modem model it can support 50mb Even though the manufacture's site say otherwise

Re: I have 50Mb.. does anyone else?

Miss-reporting is the main reason...though there are others

Until you try various pseed test methods and checked the operational config then take the reported speed with a pinch of salt.

The modem can NOT do the reported speeds...simple as that...

But I was getting well over 5000kps on my download, it was awesome.

Also I have 4 m8's who are both on 20Mb connection and they where saying to me that there Internet seemed faster than usual and went to Robin Walker and did the speed test and pasted me there results from the site and the 4 lines had something similar to this.

Fri, 1 Aug 2008 00:14:34 UTC
1st 128K took 2187 ms = 6959932 Bytes/sec
2nd 128K took 2390 ms = 4854842 Bytes/sec
3rd 128K took 2188 ms = 5759905 Bytes/sec
4th 128K took 2562 ms = 5351160 Bytes/sec
Robin Walker's test has not been updated in years, and due to the relatively small file that is downloaded is not actually very accurate for high speed broadband (above 10 Meg). Use the one at the top of this page, which is actually the same code as Robin's test, but using a larger file.

Re: I have 50Mb.. does anyone else?

this is simple - DOCSIS 2 modems like the 256 CANNOT support 50meg. 50meg is achieved in DOCSIS 3 by bonding multiple channels together. Even if you had a config that allowed "50meg" you would max out at roughly 22meg as the UBR's are limited to this speed by default.

The results you are getting are most likely because your browser is reading from its cache and giving you erronous readings.

Although the DOCSIS 2 modems can work on a DOCSIS 3 frequency it cannot attain higher speeds as it isnt capable of using bonded channels.

Those are the facts !

GrabIT will download at incredible speeds when the files are incomplete. If you have loads of.txt files instead of the rar files you expected then this is the case and you are not on 50mb after all. If you are on 50mb then well done. Won't last long.

Re: I have 50Mb.. does anyone else?

Right OK everyone I have just checked the Modem config page and I have attached an image for that and also an image for Grabit while downloading.

Someone on a previous post said that using grabit to download .txt files would show different speed than normal, well I dont download text files, when I download all my files are always .RAR and .PAR files.

Hope this proves I am getting faster speeds than normal.
Also as I am writing this my speed as now just dropped to 2096 kps on Grabit and I would like to re check the Modem Config but I just don't have time sry.
