Moving telewest box
I have a telewest cable digital set top box which i dont really use. I would like to move it to another room since i use Sky in the living room where the cable tv box used to be. How would i go about getting it installed in another room? and would it cost me to call them out to move it and if so then how much? any help appreciated.

Re: Moving telewest box
ntl will charge dont know about telewest , i suspect they will be the same in that you may not interfere with their cabling , so be careful if you go it alone

Re: Moving telewest box
There is some discussion on this subject here as its the same cable to TV and broadband:
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/ar...hp/t-1938.html
and some more threads in the tv section I think where someone quoted a £75 call out charge for TW. All sorts of stuff about messing with their cables etc. Phone them and ask.
If you are happy with the place the wall socket is then you can just get a longer cable. From what I can tell it is standard white CT100 cable with Augat Snap n seal connectors. You can get cables made up with these connectors fitted at places like
http://www.satelliteonline.co.uk/snap_and_seal.htm
then just tack it round the walls and find a way into where you want the box to be. How TW will remember where they put the box I dont know.
The farnell links in the article still work and they also now sell a crimper for £22 or so in case you want to have the tools and diy.

Unlikely, seeing how far it has already come from the box in the street. A few metres extra will usually be insignificant unless it was marginal already. Bad connectors and joins are more likely to cause problems, so always make up a single full-length cable from the wall box to the STB instead of joining to the existing one, and use CT100 type (foil+braid), not TV aerial cable (braid only).

Re: Moving telewest box
Just a quick post to say thanks.
A friend wanted to get their TW box moved and needed a 12m cable. TW quoted £75!
A quick Google and I came across this thread. It turns out that the company in one of the links posted above is about 5 miles from where I live. I gave them a call and the cable will cost only £13.50. ..bargain.
Good work fellas

Re: Moving telewest box
An additional 13 m is not likely to cause problems. Anything above 15 m more cable than originally used may cause problems with signal drop.

Re: Moving telewest box
It's very simple mate I have done this twice now, call up customer service's asking to them move it then oce you hear the cost say " oh thats far to much just for moving the box, in that case please cancel my subscription" they will then pass you onto the other's to disconnect you they will then try thier best to keep you as a customer all you then do i say please move my box and i will stay with you.
Job done.

Re: Moving telewest box
Yes they will charge you for moving the box.
You say you want it where it was origanally, if you look in that room where it used to be, there should be somewhere on the wall an isolator, if this is still there, then trace the cable from that to the brown/grey box on the front of your house, if it is still connected in there, then you should just be able to unscrew the current cable that is connected to you STB from its current location and screw it onto the isolator in the new room and it should be fine.
When the box's are installed, telewest usually ask the installer on the phone when activating the box the location of the equipment along with the serial number and card number etc etc. When ever a work's order is printed for you account the location of the equipment is printed on the work order and the installer is meant to check the location of the equipment and the serial numbers on each visit, but they never do.
