Wireless internet download speed slow

Hi

I've recently upgraded to 20mb broadband from Virginmedia, and with my Netgear WPN824 router I'm getting speeds of between 4000 and 7000kbps across the wireless network compared to 13000kbps if I connect the PC to the cable modem using the ethenet cable. If I connect my PC by ethernet cable to the router and then the router to the modem by ethernet cable I get 4000 to 7000kbps. Only the PC or the laptop were connected at the time of the tests.

I have the Motorola S100 modem.

All speeds were measured at various times through the day using www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk.

Is there any way of increasing the speeds when operating wirelessly?

so its a wireless N router, is your pc wireless n compatible, or is it wireless g?
if its only wireless g then that could be about the right speed. also check your router settings to make sure its not running in g mode, i think you will only be able to use the neighbour friendly mode (whatever it is on your router)
i have the netgear WNR834B and though its a 270mbs router i can only run it in neighbour friendly 130mbs mode (not sure why) but i constantly get speed between 15 - 20mbs.
