Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Hi mate,

I'm getting a similar thing and it been going on for over 10 days now. I have a 4MB line and its been great, little niggles once or twice but no great bother. I play online games (FB2142) and have had no problems.

They started upgrading my line (and everyone who has 4MB) to 10MB for free, (this sounds great doesn't it ) the only problem is my line now drops to 2.5MB in the evening and the gaming in the day if crap to say the least I can download files from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/demos/ at 1170KB/sec but for some reason i have a really high ping while gaming and the bloody view jumps all over the place, quite annoying when playing FPS.

I have had nothing but trouble from tech support and customer services who just make excuses and really have no idea

Anyone else having this

Yes it does doesn't it, unfortunately there won't be a lot you can do. You get used to it in the end, see how I cope with 2142 on the -BFB- Infantry server some time, soldier name as in this username

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

spoke to them last night and after they tried and tried to fob me off, the server is capping me. Something to do with the amount I download and playing online games, she said try not playing any game in the day and see if the server still caps you at night!

So all I've got to look forward to is a slow down in any game I play after about 20 mins, its a bloody rip off, I pay for 4MB but in the small print it says 'up to' 4MB so they have you by the b**ls.

They gave me some bull about if I download at a fast speed then I slow other people's Internet down, how the hell am I overriding other peoples speeds? I am on some sort of priority line that nick's bandwidth off other users. Pack of lies me thinks.

I'm gonna look for somewhere else that doesn't cap your speed!

These are my latest speed test. I've been getting faster speeds then usaul. i checked the virgin page and they were carrying out maintenance in the walsall area. Could this mean that the 10mb upgrade is on its way ???

Test 1: 1024K took 2634 ms = 388.8 KB/sec, approx 3204 Kbps, 3.13 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 2003 ms = 511.2 KB/sec, approx 4212 Kbps, 4.11 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 2093 ms = 489.3 KB/sec, approx 4032 Kbps, 3.94 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 4796 ms = 427 KB/sec, approx 3518 Kbps, 3.44 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3742 Kbps, 3.66 Mbps

Don't get excited, we're always last to be upgraded for anything. Two year wait for VOD ring any bells. We haven't even got caller ID. Don't hold your breath.

Do I believe VM? Hmmmm NO!
I'd assumed I would be upgraded with the Coventry lot as I'm about 10 miles away but no joy. Just done a traceroute and from the router names it appears I'm actually lumped in with Birmingham even though that's 20 miles away. Ho hum.

I love this thread, so full of disappointments for people, especially in Mansfield now they've moved the upgrade from March to April, LOL!!!
