Re: Help with COD4
Just keep trying and unlock the better wepons. The G3 is an amazing gun but its single fire so only good if you have a good aim. Try tracking a person accross the map etc etc. Eventually you will pick up the skills needed.

Re: Help with COD4
main advice until you get the M4 would be to use the MP5... get close and personal and knife a lot as that gives you brownie points. another tip... go to the NTHW server if its for pc... there are 2 easy victims most of the nights there called MovedGoalPosts and Dilli... very easy to sneak up on especially MGP and just knife him.
you'll see yourself how rewarding it would be

In the bigger maps, use your M16, with the red dot scope and kit youself out with claymores. They've improved the sniper rifles, but it still shakes a bit too much and they are useless close up. Also, none of the maps are really big enough for sniping, except maybe overgrown.
On the smaller maps, ie the one on the ship and the one in the small building, use your MP5 until you can use the P90, then use that and when you get up to the level where you get 3 grenades, take that.

Re: Help with COD4
Can you only mute people with the new patch? (PS3 version). Why do people insist on playing music through their microphone.

Re: Help with COD4
I'm using the M16 with the ACOG at the moment, love it since the patch sorted the ACOG (previously used the red dot with the M16).
For run & gun, the MP5 is good (or, as mentioned, the P90 when you eventually get it).
Just keep playing. Get used to the weapons, & very important - get used to the maps. Know the layout, the good spots, what kind of style is best on each one. Do you run around like a maniac spraying bullets from an MP5, or do you act more carefully, shooting off short controlled bursts from an M16 (or single shots from whichever AR does those). Keep an eye on the radar, & watch out for helicopters!..

On 360, you can mute in two ways: Bring up the "Guide" (kind of like the "in-game XMB" the PS3 is hopefully getting soon), find the player & mute them. Or, use the new patch-added quick mute function. So, for the PS3, I guess the only way is via the patch's quick mute function.
Music... 'cos sadly many people on PSN (& XBL) are idiots & need to be muted. A lot of the time when I play, maybe half the people won't have their headset connected at all, & the other half just talk crap very loudly so end up muted.

I used to have my headset on, but don't bother now. Most people don't talk, they either breath heavily into the mic, make stupid loud noises on the level loading screens, when you can't see who is doing it or as mentioned, play music through it. Now I spend half my time muting whining little yank kids!
